Hi,
I have recently met the MOST AMAZING man who has told me after a few
dates that he has CF. He said that he thought it best to be open at an early
stage and once it was clear we liked eachother etc etc. He wanted to give me the
opportunity to get out early doors I guess if the prospect was too scary. Of
course I haven't done this and although everything I read is very scary it
hasn't scared me away from him (if that makes sense). I am 36 (he is 35) and I
have kissed a lot of frogs to know a prince when I see one.

Anyhow - there are a
million questions I have running around my head but don't want everytime I see
him to be a CF Q&A session so wondered if I could trouble you lovely people
for some help.

-How do I make sure I am looking after him without
mothering him?
-We both have talked about children and both want them - CF
aside this would be a conversation I would be having as I am no spring chicken.
I guess my first question is how easy it is in the UK to find out if you are a
carrier. Has anyone been through this?

Please help with anything you
wish someone had told you at the start of it all.

Thanks
M

First of all he is lucky to have someone as caring as you! What I would do with all chronic diseases it is important to ask how they are feeling instead of assuming. "Mothers" tend to tell you what to do while partners listen and suggest.

Your not the first to go through this trust me. All you have to do to find out if you are a carrier is go to a genetic center (don't know if y'all have those in the UK). But for mothering him you just have to ask what he likes, my girlfriend loves when I take care of her when she's sick but she also feels bad about it. And for finding out about it I'm sure he would love to tell you but just learn a little as you date him.
