The cf blues,

Those days when you just wish for a break because everything feels so hard. When there's pain and no treatment to fix it or you're coughing and there's no way of just getting your lungs to shut up so you do something. Have a day out and enjoy it rather than being too tired to have the fun you need to have to keep sane.

What things do you do to get through it? I have a strategy that works now, I never used to. I drill into my head that it'll be better tomorrow because I'll take a rest day and do nothing to let my body have a break. I have a million hobbies, I crochet, play online computer games (socialising without having to move and something you can still do in hospital), I paint miniatures and they're part of a game I play with friends so when I'm unwell I get more painting done and when I'm better I can put my awesome painted army against my friends. I've started learning to cook (chef boyfriend so he's helping), I read, make cards. Watch random family feel good movies on netflix. And I also push myself where I can to go swimming though I can't swim very well and have to use a float to stop the suffocating feeling of water pressure crushing my lungs.

It doesn't stop the blue feeling or the fed up, but recognising those feelings are there and distracting myself from them makes me deal with it better somehow.

So Yeh, what sorts of things do you do to make you feel a bit better and make life more tolerable when the cf blues strike?

Hi there, Gemsi! I'm glad to see you're back! I think your strategy is very good and effective for many different kinds of health problems, emotional as well as physical. Sometimes we just can't escape our afflictions even with medical care and medications but our way to approach dealing with being sick can change how we tolerate them.

I hope all is going well. :-)

Hi Lanie,

Things are going OK, I've graduated from college and now volunteering there on a Monday. Keeping myself busy but not too busy like I was before. Definitely better now I can press the pause button in my head, step off the crazy train and find a better place to be.

How are you? Is everything ok? :)

I'm glad you found your 'pause' button! Otherwise, you'll be wearing yourself out. I'm fine, still kicking. yeah

Hey Gemsi, I know where your coming from. This past week I found out my FEV1 dropped to 44% AND I have CFRD. That on top of starting to lose my hair from upping the dose of my chemo drug....well, its a bit much at once! But, life goes on. I cut off about 18 inches of hair so its short...hopefully that will slow the shedding process. When the CF blues hit, I go and hang with my two amazing daughters. Their energy, laughter, and general love of life is so contagious it never fails. If they arent around, I take a nap. THings always look better to me well-rested! Cheers!
