Hi, I am new to this board and thought I would say a little about myself.

My name is Phil and I am a 29 year old guy who was just diagnosed with CF. I have always had bad sinus infections my whole life and in the past year was hospitalized 2 times, one time for Pancreatitis and another time for a high white blood count they could not explain.

This past year has been a complete blur and I am a little confused right now and was wondering if someone might be able to explain something to me?

I had a sweat test and the genetic test done. I just got the results 3 days ago and I still am in kinda shock. My sweat test was 59 but my genetic test showed (and this is where I am lost) a delta f508 and a 5t variant. I have very little idea what that means.

I also need to admit that I smoke and I guess that means I have to quite ASAP. But I was wondering what that means regarding the genetic test. Is this a mild form of CF, I am just very confused. Any help would be great.

  Thank you for your time,

   Phil

Hi Phil and Welcome to HW!

To answer you......I am quite confused that you have DeltaF508 and has not had more problems before this. My twins have this genetic mutation and it seems to be a mild form to them but the most common in alot of CF'ers. Now, their Sweat Chloride test was measured in the high 90's. Definately positive for CF.

I am sure with you being newly diagnosed that you will be going thru some heavy education to keep on top of your CF. When you see a pulmonologist (preferably at a CF care center), your questions will be answered. So....get out your pad and pencil and prepare your questions.

Another idea is to do a search on CF. Usually medical information sites such as...Merck Manual will give you educational info with physical body pics...helpful info. Or...if you prefer, I can send you info by email....Womanoftx@aol.com. Healing Well does not allow alot of sites to be posted here due to forum rules.

Anyway, again welcome....we are here for you!.

Hello Phil. Welcome to the forum! I have posted on a very effective sinus remedy that has served me well. My sinus's were so bad I had to have my nasal polyps removed (they were huge!) when I was 9. Now I use the remedy and I have no problems. To some extent I believe It even helps me to fend of colds (start getting the signs of a cold and I use the treatment twice that day and the next day I'm fine!). ! Its under " Sinusitis - Sinus infections" It would probably help you too.
