My niece has CF and has been hospitalized again.  Her parents are feeling a lot of pressure, especially mom to quit her job and keep her at home to avoid germs.  I'm of the opinion that having her live a as normal life as possible is best and her mom should not feel guilty for working.  Her mom and dad take turns staying with her in the hospital.  I am looking for opinions from parents and children as to the pros and cons of both.  BTW my niece is 6 yrs old.

Hi there Teehee and welcome to HW.

I agree with you on the live her life as normal as possible. Although, I only treat my boys to the mall or out to eat in the public on fridays, this may help to contribute to them being pretty healthy. They do go to regular school and have since kindergarden and has done fairly well. I spray lysol to help with the germ issue at home. I jump on an issue if I see one arising medically. I quickly determine if it is a virus or a lung involvement. I would rather not take a chance on hospitilization if I don't have to.

I can certainly sympathize with the mom for feeling guilty for working. Bless her heart. It's hard to have a child in the hospital all the time worrying. I have been there and done that!. All CF centers have a resourse person, perhaps she can talk with him/her to help her feel better. I just dealt with our CF Center resource person on school issues. They are so wonderful and can help figure out ways to clear the path so to speak, so, we can move forward with not only our feelings, but, understandings.

Hoping things get better for you all

Hey, I was homeschooled from 6th grade until my senior year. I don't think it's a really good idea. I'm 20 and I have a hard time talking to peers. In fact, I don't talk to my peers. I get really nervous and I feel like I can't relate or don't fit in. Homeschooling may no cause everyone to go to that extreme lol but I definitely think it played a part in it. I definitely missed out on A LOT of things.
