At what various times do you find salt crystals more prominant on the skin?  during heat exposure? or have you noticed other times?

In my experience salt crystals are more prominent during heat exposure. I've always been told to fill up on electrolytes during the summer months to prevent this. Water, Gatorade, some sort of sports drink will cut down on the amount of salt put out. Another home remedy (and this may sound kind of crazy, but it works) is take a tablespoon of kool-aid, and mix in a half teaspoon to a teaspoon of salt, then drink it

I agree with Chaser, thats been my experience also. Our clinic always gave us a list of "salty" foods such as popcorn, pretzels, etc. they recommended as snacks during the summer months. They also recommended pedialyte occassionally when we were exposed to heat for extended periods of time during the summer. It gets quite hot in Dallas and an activity such as Six Flags or even the water park could cause excessive sweating. We tried salt tablets but she was unable to tolerate them so we found the above solutions worked quite well for her.

Kathy, anytime my son sweats alot (regardless of whether is it hot out or not), the salt crystals start to appear/dry on his face.  It is very prominent in the summer,  but it also appears if he is running around and sweating.  His hands and feet also get all pruney looking.

Thanks for the all the info and helpful hints. Great discussion!.

Chaser, can you add the kool-aid tidbit to the: tidbit info thread please. I think that might be a great addition.

Hugs!
