I'm Keith, I'm Irish, 15. I was just wondering if there were any other diseases that were likely to come with CF (like diabetes) and what the life expectancy is. Any help at all would be great

I believe the average life expectancy still stands at 31 with the CF Trust. Although I know people in there 40's and one in there 60's still going strong.
I think things like liver cirrohsis and diabetes are the most common CF related problems. Also there's probably more chance of chest related problems.

Hope this helps, let me know ifyou need any more info and I'll do my best to provide answers for you:)

Thanks for that, I'm a bit shocked that 31 is the life expectancy though

As I say, I wouldn't worry about the life expectancy too much. When I was born, my mum was first told I'd live to the age of 5. Then they told her 12. And now look at me. I'm 21 today!

With the advances in medical technlogy, that figure is rising all of the time. yeah

Congratulations on your birthday and I know what you mean, when my cousin was first diagnosed the doctor told my auntie to bring him home and treat him 'like a china cup' and he's 28 now

hello fellow irish cfer!!dont worry about life expectancy because what have they to go on??we are the generation of cfers who have all the advantages of new medications so they dont really know what our life expectancy is.you gotta take control of your cf.eat well and try to exercise as much as possible.it may be a pain and pretty hard to do but it will be worth it.Im 23 and getting married this year and then hoping to start a family.im pretty healthy with a lung function of 70% on a normal day.best thing to do is keep your spirits high and just dont think about illness too much.thats just my opinion and everyone has their own.peace out my friend.
