Hi,

I have two children, a boy (3 1/2) and a girl (18 months).

Both kids have suffered with constipation since they were 6 months old, bad gas pains since birth and have failed to gain weight like they should.  My son turns 4 in October and weighs 25 lbs.  They have otherwise been very healthy - a couple of colds and an ear infection.

After a week of unexplained GI bleeding my son was referred to a Ped. GI Specialist.  She suggested doing a sweat test to rule out CF.  His test came back borderline (42).

A second sweat test was performed on him and my daughter was given her first.  My son's again came back borderline (42) and my daughter's was normal.

We now have an appointment with our local CF clinic for this Friday.  Have any of you had borderline results?  If so, what was the outcome?  Should I still be concerned about my daughter's CF status even though her test was normal?

Thanks in advance,

Jodi

My daughter also had two borderline sweat test results and we finally had a fully DNA test to get her diagnosis. Since she has CF, our CF clinic recommended the DNA test for my other two kids (one is a carrier, the other has no CF mutations). My understanding is that a negative sweat test is a pretty clear sign that she doesn't have CF, but borderline is really inconclusive. Talk to the CF doctor and have all your questions ready. Good luck.

I would love to know what you found out about your child.  My 2 yr old just scored a 41 on his test.  He has had severe constipation problems since birth but also suffers from a severe milk allergy (which could be the cause).  We have another test scheduled in a month.  His genetic test is in but we are also waiting to meet with the genetic doc.  I know he tested positve for heterozygous which says he is a carrier but thats about all i know at this point.  This is taking forever and we know nothing.  I hope all is well with your children
