Hey everybody, I'm Caitlin, i'm 16 and I have CF. I just had a couple of questions for other people with cf to see if this is normal or not. Lately I've been really tired and have felt just worn out for no reason and I'm sleeping alot longer than normal. So I wanted to see if this is a bad sign or not, if maybe i'm not getting enough oxygen in my sleep or my lungs aren't doing good. I've also been coughing up alot of blood, but it feels like its just coming from my throat and its coming up really easily, when I feel I have some gunk down in my chest and try to cough deep to get it up, I can't and its just like blood. So please help me figure out if this is kind of normal and will just go away soon, or if its alot worse than that. Thank you!

Hi Caitlin!

Right-Lets see if I can help you here.

Tiredness in CF, in my experiance, can be pretty normal. It could mean infection, low sodium, low potassium or low iron, or just be one of those things.

The weather is really hot, if you aren't on slow sodium/sodium chloride, then I'd ask your doctor about it. Especially if you also don't eat a lot of salt.

Coughing up blood- Again, cold be sign of infection. If your lungs have been through a lot, it could just be a bit of the lining of the lung, where it's broke away after a lot of coughing. Or, it could be from your throat, if you have been coughing particuarly hard.

I'd sugest you see a doctor, as it could be any number of things, even something I don't actually know about.

Hope some of this helps, try not to get worried about it, as it's probably something nice and easy.

Hope your feeling better soon!
