Have any of you tried to lose weight while dealing with your depression? I know that the meds can be a stumbling block, and I also feel very bad about myself when I fail - and I usually do! I am so hard on myself. Any advice?

The only advise is a protien diet and exercise, though it doesn't seem to help me all that much. But I have fibromyalgia and with that comes belly fat. I know that it is hard to do these things when you are depressed. So I try to turn on some music and dance when I am alone. It has an aerobic affect and it makes me feel good. But I am constantly fighting weight gain also. I have heard topomax can help you lose weight.
Try not to beat yourself up when you gain a few pounds, I think it only adds to the depression. Also go by your clothes fit you and not by the scales. A lot of times the weight is muscle and not body fat. Muscle weighs four times more than body fat. Most of all, don't give up. And try not to get discouraged. Drink a lot of water too. That is suppose to be very healthy.

It can be done, but meds are always against me so I'll have to exercise twice as much to lose weight. Like getting by said it is about diet which includes lots of drinking water and exercise. Sorry but there is no short cut to weight loss. Plus when you exercise it raises your endorphins, which raises your mood. That is another reason that exercise is good for you. Now starting the excercise, now that is the tough part. I usually have to force myself to do stuff. Sorry I wish I can give you more tips, but I can't.

The best advice I can give for this is eating regularly & healthily and keeping the exercise up. It will help speed up your metabolic rate as well which will help you lose weight.
