Hey all...
I am wondering if I should go to the hospital... It's impossible to go see my psychiatrist (it seriously takes about 8 weeks to get in to see him).  I've seen a doctor at Student Health out of desperation, but the meds she's given me don't work and like I have mentioned before, they make me gain weight.  : (
So I'm currently unmedicated, and it's not going well.  I went on a 4 day drug binge (I HAD been drug-free for a week short of 2 years and being in recovery was a huge part of my identity; I've currently been clean for about 40 days).
I'm not suicidal and I haven't hurt myself or anything, but I'm really depressed and it's hard to do anything... it's hard to go to bed... it's hard to get up in the morning, it's hard to get my homework/projects done, it's hard to get to class, it's hard to shower and primp, it's hard to call my friends because I feel like a drag.
I don't trust the doctor from Student Health, and I can't get an appointment with my psychiatrist for 8 weeks unless I'm admitted.  Should I go????????  Please advise...

I think if you are feeling hopeless then, by all means, you should go. I am not sure, do they only keep you in the hospital if they believe you are a harm to self or others? I would think your recent drug use would qualify as harm to self, but again I am not sure.

At the very least I think they would bring in a psych consult before releasing you, and they could get you your much needed meds.

Im going to smile like nothing is wrong, act like everything is perfect, and pretend its not hurting me.

Sorry you are having a rough time. If you are feeling that low you definitely need to see someone before 8 wks. Cant you go to hospital outpatient? If you not harmful to self or others would they keep you? If Emerg is an option where they just treat you and let you go then thats the best way to go. Either way you need to see someone ASAP.

As everyone has said yes go to the Hospital.. be honest when you get there, and maybe at the very least they will be able to get you in to see someone right away.

Good Luck and please keep us posted.

Hi there and yes by all means go to the hospital, be sure to let them know you resorted to using drugs and that you have fears of relapsing again.

The other thing I would check on ...........does your own Pdoc have openings for emergency situations as yours seems to be?  Usually they can juggle the schedule for an established patient. Just a thought.  Your Pdoc may not realize how bad off you are right now. sad Either way seek help and don't hesitate.  We are here for you and will await your next post.  Gentle Hugs, Kitt
