I have read a lot, but I would really like to hear more opinions, I am going to start it at 37.5 mg for the first time. I've previously used Zoloft, Lexapro(good, but wt. gain :( ) Cymbalta, and last...Prozac. I have been on nothing for over 6 mo. and it is obvious I really do need something! Badly!! I can't say a for sure opinion 'bout the meds I tried before, cuz I ended up

drinking on all of them. But I am soooo ready to be well, sober and well!! Any comments on Effexor??

I have been on effexor for a couple of years and have not had any adverse side affects. I would not recommend drinking when using nono .

Good luck!

I have been taking effexor for about 14 years. I take 375mg extend release each day. I found that it works well for me, but if you ever decide to go off of it, taper off really slow. It can be horrible if you don't. The doctor says that I will have to take it for the rest of my life. It works well for me.

They will start you off slowly. It took me a few years to get up to that dose. I am lucky, I have insurance. Otherwise it would be over 600.00 a month. Ask for samples. Sometimes they can give you a months worth at a time. Especially in the beginning.

I was on Effexor and trying to come off because it gave me horrible night sweets and crazy dreams.  The dreams were not so bad but the night sweets were way bad.  I had to change my sheets like every other day.  I was on it for 6 months and coming off of it is NO FUN.

The decision to come off of the Effexor was derived with my doctor and a plan to go on anther is in the works.  Coming off this stuff is NO FUN at all!!!!
