So let me begin by saying I've been very depressed.  I have good days and then there are bad.  I'm 40 years old, married and one son now attending college in California.  I don't see him much, it's been 7 months since I last saw him.  I also left a job of 7 years for another opportunity closer to home and it only lasted 4 months until I was laid-off with a group of other employees.  Not to mention it was a week before Christmas.  My marriage has been on the rocks as well.  I often have thoughts of divorce, starting a new life, most probably in California where my son is living.  However, I don't want to make a mistake soley out of depression.  I really don't know what to do.  Any advice?

Hi Zukamaya,

The first thing that I want to do is welcome you to the HW depression forum.  We have a lot of wonderful people here and I am sure that you will feel comfortable.

Everybody is seeming to be going through hard times right now.  I don't know where you live, but my problem is this long grueling winter.  I have been depressed lately waiting impatiently for spring to get here.  Though it is technically here by what the calender says, we got another 5 inches of snow today.  Yuck!

I do agree with you on not making any hasty decisions right now while the depression seems worse.  You will be looking at things differently as soon as you feel better.  When I am depressed, as I am now, I try not to make any decisions that will effect my life to that extreme.  So you are correct to hold off until you feel better.

I am sure that others will come along with advice for you.  Though I think you are on the right track.  I am sorry about your job situation.  Maybe you can find something else that will help you to feel better about yourself.  Sometimes change is a good thing when you aren't feeling good.  A new job could be just what you need.

I hope that you feel better soon.

Hugs, Karen
