I've been on the anxiety forum but now think I should try the depression side too. I have been struggling with depression (and anxiety) for the past 8 months. Been on meds and see a counselor and psychiatrist. Nothing seems to help. I'm unable to live my life like I normally would. It seems as though my brain is shut off and I am extremely tired. Now I'm going through crying fits because I can't take it anymore and need some relief. I have tried so many different ADs and only get bad side effects. Been on lexapro for almost 2 months without much benefit. Has anyone else struggled like this for this long? Is there anything else I could do? I've never had depression before.
It all started with a doc who gave me too much medication too fast which started the depression. I only needed something for anxiety. It's really bad. I could use some advice..

Hi there and Welcome to the Depression Forum!

Meds and talking therapy are the main forms of treatment in depression but thats not to say that they are the only ones. You can use light-boxes (Which imitate natural sunlight if your depression is linked to a lack of daylight) you can treat depression with exercise therapy or music therapy as well as complementary therapies such as aromatherapy and acupuncture. If you are going to consider a complementary therapy then make sure you consult with a proper certified health professional.

Everyone has a guardian angel. They help pick you up when you fall, comfort you through your times of need and help you appreciate the times when things are going well.

I've tried some of those things. Frankly, I'm running out of money as I haven't been able to work. I can barely get through the day. I don't know how much more of it I can put up with without any improvement. I'm just so exhauseted all the time. I'm sick of sleeping and being out of work, but my body won't let me do much of anything. I'm really scared now because there aren't many options left to try and the depression has a strong grip. If I could think I could probably start to get going but it's like I'm in some kind of daze all the time. Can it really go on this long??

It sounds like you might have chronic fatigue also. Have you read anything on that forum. Though chronic fatigue could be a part of depression or even fibromyalgia. Do you have any pain in your symptoms?

It took me years before I found what worked for me. My life isn't perfect but it is livable. You should start seeing some iimprovement as they narrow down what you need. Just don't give up, it takes time and the medications take time themselves to start working.

Good luck and keep posting.

I don't think I have chronic fatigue. I don't have any pain or any of the other symptoms. Just so tired all the time. Feels like I can't move and afraid to do anything. I'm really at my wits end. Been to so many doctors and all the tests come back fine. The only thing left is depression. I found out I have celiac disease but I don't think that is what is going on. They caught the celiac early. Everyone thinks this is more depression than anything else. I'm sick of feeling this way. Thanks for the support.

Are you currently getting mental health help? If not, get it as soon as you can. This sounds so much like CFS with the level of depression. I had no aches or pains at first either, but now have Fibro too. I'm managing the depression with meds as I'd had a lot of talk therapy in the past. Finding the right med in the right dose is often a real challenge, but when you finally one that works, it's worth it!

Good luck!
