Hey all,
I wondered if anyone could give me some advice? I've had depression/panic disorder for about 12 years off and on. Over the last two months the depression has come back with a bang... I've begun to self harm again, not done that for a long time. I know it's been triggered by an engagement breakup and subsequent loss of my friends. I've seen my doctor and they're refusing to put me back on meds (don't know if that's good or bad!) and I've just started seeing a councillor. I live in a pretty small town and no longer know who to turn to, I feel incredibly alone and don't know how to go forward so I can start feeling myself again. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you!

Hi GG.

I think that you should try the counseling. It takes a few visits for things to get rolling. So don't give up. Are there other doctor's that you could see to get a second opinion about medication? Maybe that would be something to think about. Do you know why your doctor wont give you any meds?

Anyway, we are here for support, so keep posting. But other than going to the counseling, and maybe looking for another opinion about the medications, all I can recommend is to continue to post and we will do the best we can to offer advice and our opinions.

I hope that you feel better soon,
hugs, Karen

Welcome to the forum,we are very glad that you found us,and you will see that we will all try to support you as much as we can.

I agree with Karen,it might be time to get a second opinion on the meds. I would start with the counselor first as they will know the signs of you needing meds or not.

Please do not harm yourself anymore, if you feel that need again, try to get into the counselor asap.

Please remember,I am not a professional..I am just a person who is also fighting depression.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.

Thank you both for the welcome :) my doctor's theory for no meds was that they weren't a complete solution as I had to keep going back on them (even though they worked for years at a time!!) I also know that over here doctors are seriously cutting back on prescriptions for anti depressants etc...the state of the mental health service in the county where I live leaves a heck of a lot to be desired. Will see how the councilling goes!
Thank you again! GG
