I thought it would be a nice idea if we, as moderators, told you a little about our lives and experiences to show you that we are normal human beings as well and as a nice introduction. (Thanks for the idea Kitt!) I guess since I am starting the thread, its only fair that I go first! tongue
Well, my name is Darren, I am 23 years old and I am the only UK based Moderator for Depression. I am a psychology graduate (BSc. Hons.) and am currently studying for my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. I have struggled with Depression on and off for many years, probably from about age 15. I have taken meds and had therapy so I have seen first hand, the sort of benifits there are to it. I am also epileptic so I am very limited with Anti-Depressants as they all interact with my Anti-Epileptic Drugs (Tegretol) to a certain degree. I have taken Zoloft for 2 periods of time and I am pleased to say that (As of today in fact) I am stopping my Zoloft after a controlled reduction. I have been a moderator for Depression and Epilepsy since April 2007 and I am hoping to continue for some time yet (Unless people get bored with me! lol).
Thats about it really, nothing much to tell... although I am an open book so if anyone has specific questions, please email me!
Best Wishes

Well, as I use this forum more often than I use my own. I thought I'd give a bit of an intro too.......Mainly because I'm bored, and it's beautiful out but I can't leave the house today! Not even my megadrive is keeping me entertained!

I'm Gemma, 22 female, a moderator in the Cystic Fibrosis forum. I am also UK based. I do have clinical depression, and don't seem to manage my mood swings all that well, which is why I end up in here a lot. I am on Mirtazapine (Remeron) too deal with this.
I have recently started mentor training and am almost at the end of the 6 week course, and already have 2 mentee's lined up. The mentoring involves getting disabled people where they need to be, and the project is run by disabled people. The project soon may actualy be turning into a service for mentoring people whos children are newly diagnosed. Which is quite exciting.
I also go too a Social group, and go on many many trips and gala's with them and they feed me strawberries and icecream making them the best people ever!!!
Oh, and I love computers, from megadrives and Amigas too PS3 and PC, from gameboy too Nintendo DS, I always have some sort of computer with me.
I also love experimenting with my hair-never have the same hair style or colour for long. I also like tattoo's and piercings.
Painting warhamer, cross-stitch, drawing, graphics editing, reading, writing, being a donut-all my hobbies. I'm a natural figit bum, and can't sit still for long tongue

Erm.....That's all I can think of for now. Also an open book here, so any questions just ask via email.
Thanks for this thread Daz-I likes talking about me, haha!- Not very good at proving I'm normal though scool

Hi, I'm Judy and I moderate the Ulcerative Colitis board. I take Zoloft for chronic depression. It was interesting when the medication kicked in and I was no longer depressed; I realized I'd been seriously depressed for at least 25 years and gone untreated. My mounting health problems led to a melt-down right in my doctor's office, making it difficult for them not to see that I was depressed.

I'm in Texas, and I manage a home visitation program for new parents, providing parent education. I love my job, but love even more that I'll be taking early retirement in a couple of months. I love gardening, photography and I'm an avid reader.

You may see me here from time to time, and I hope I'll be welcome.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.

Hi I am Karen,

I havent' been moderating all that long, since about Feb 2008. I love this forum though...

I like music, art, walking in the woods and being on the forum. I like to paint, wood burn, sketch and make jewelry. I like to play with rocks and stones. I have a rock saw so I can cut into them and see what they look like in the inside. You would be suprised at the beauty of them.

I am 49, female. Will be 50 (boohoo) in four months. Half a century old. But I feel just as young as I did 20 years ago. Must be in my second childhood early.LOL...

I hope that you all join in on this thread, I find it interesting to know a little more about everybody.

hugs to all, Karen

Meet your Moderator, Kitt

I am Kitt and I volunteered to moderate this forum as the topic is close to my heart. I am a retired RN, 26 years working in ER/ICU and then as the Nurse Manager of Emergency Services and Respiratory Care. My husband and I have 4 children, one of our boys was killed in a car crash in 1990.

I am from the Midwest  USA,  the heratland  of America  :-)

I have  Depression  and was first dx in 1982 so I know this disorder well.

I joined HW after being with a strictly Mental Health site as a moderator for 10 months. I felt I needed to branch out and belong to a group that covered medical and mental health issues. The people here have become family to me.

I have always been a care giver but have learned to take care of myself now so I have no more guilt over doing something just for me.

I believe I have a good sense of humor and I love to help others. Team work is very important to me. I am proud to be a part of this forum.

I am glad to be here. I am truly happy you have joined us.
