Hey all,

This is my first non-introductory post and you are all so helpful, so I figured I'd ask to get some opinions/help...

I suffer from horrible headaches from time to time. They have gotten much better since I have been on Zoloft, but occasionally I will get one set of by hunger, tiredness, stress, etc. I've found tylenol/aspirin/advil do nothing to alleviate the pain, and I began to take excedrin. Boy oh boy did it make those headaches go away, and fast! It was great, but now something else arose...

Last night, I took my Zoloft around 7pm as usual (my doctor says to take it at night; not sure why since everyone else I know takes their antidepressants in the morning) and shortly thereafter I took an excedrin because I had been having a pounding headache for a few hours that didn't go away by eating something or laying down. I felt okay for a few hours but then I tried to go to sleep for the night. I was laying in bed and my mind was racing, and that turned into some pretty bad thoughts...if you catch what I'm trying to say. I have never once thought like that or had this weird experience; it was so bad I had to take an Ativan to calm myself; it worked, but not nearly as much as it usually does (either it was a very acute attack or I'm building tolerance to it - I think it's probably the latter unfortunately). I fell asleep a bit later after taking the pill and my boyfriend trying very hard to calm me down.

This morning, he asked if I was all right before he went to work and said he thinks that it could have been an interaction between the Zoloft and Excedrin - I looked it up and it said that there isn't an "interaction" persay, but you should take it with caution; at least I think I'm reading it right. If I am wrong, someone please inform me...

Excedrin has helped me so much with regards to the disabling headaches I used to get, and the Zoloft has helped me so much with my depression! If I ever take Excedrin again, I'm going to make sure I space it out more, but now I'm just scared to take it at all confused

Any thoughts would be appreciated by any of you very knowlegable and caring individuals. :-)

I have not heard of anyone having a reaction to Zoloft and Excedrin.  I do think you should hold on the Excedrin until you can ask your physician or call your pharmacy as they have the drug interactions  all on their computer. I am not a professional.

I take my AD at bed time.

HI there,

Escedrine often has caffiene in it. That is probably why you couldn't go to sleep.

I am sorry that this happened. I hope that you have a good day today.

I also take Zoloft 150mg a day and sometimes have bad headaches, I was told by my doc to stay away from caffine but like you the only thing that works for me is Excedrin. I just make sure I only take one and so far have never had a headache close to bed time, mine are mostly in the mornings. I take most of my meds in the morning.

Zoloft 150mg/day
Wellbutrin 300mg/day
Lithium 300mg/2 times a day
