Hi everyone.  I am new to this forum and wanted to say hi.  I've had depression for 13 years + now.  I was in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic and that triggered depression in me.  Lately, I had a good job but, recently lost it because I was depressed and sick and out of work alot.  I don't know where to go from here.  I just feel like there's got to be more to life but, I don't really enjoy things anymore.  I'm on alot of meds and still the depression is there.  I've just started seeing my counselor again and Im hoping she will help, along with my meds.  What have others gone through with there depression and is it better now?  Sassy234

welcome sassy, Yes I gone through something similar with my depresion which was kicked in by my past addiction to online games, I'm on meds and seeing doctors for over 6 years now . Everyone around me says I am better but I don't feel that inside me. and I'm back to work again I just finished my second day after 2 weeks without work. I think you need to fill your life with stuff so you don't have time to get depressed, I'm trying that now like I'm trying to reach out to people to make new friends etc, and join activities and be there for the ones who I love the most. Life is hard sometimes, but we have to let go with our past and move forward and look ahead. good luck in your counselor and wish things will get better for you :)

I'm still having problems executing some simple things like going to the gym but I hope I can get around them..

Thanks.  I've made peace and let go of that abusive relationship but, my depression lives on.  Yes, I have trouble with simple things but, I press forward.  I am hoping that my counselor will provide some workable solutions.  Take care.  Sassy

Hello Sassy,

I'm glad you found us here. It's always good to have a place to go where people understand what you're going through.

I think it's awesome that you've let go of the things in your past. That's the one thing I'm struggling with, letting go of some of the things I've done, even as recently as a few days ago. I guess what we should all remember is that we need to live in the present, one day at a time. Maybe now is the time to start a new hobby? It does help a lot to keep your mind off of things. I just recently starting playing the flute again, which I haven't done in years. It really is helping a lot, at least to get me out of the house one or two times a week. :)

I hope everything goes well with your counselor, and that she will help you get through this. And remember that we're all here, too, to help you. Welcome to our boards. Stay strong.

Hello Everyone,

It is nice to see all of you on board. Yes we do have to let go of our past. It isn't the easiest thing to do but it can be done. We have to try to live in the present. And worrying about the future is wasted energy too. Living in the now as they say.

This can be a difficult thing to do, but we should try to notice what is going on around us. Absorb it. The sights, the smells the sounds. Listen, look, learn and live, I guess I would say. It can be done, it just takes practice.

You all sound like you are accomplishing this. You all sound like you are doing well and that really makes me happy. I love hearing about people trying hard and succeeding as you all are. Keep up the good work. And continue trying.

Best wishes to all,

Hugs, Karen
