idea  good morning all...
i was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and clinical depression about 10 yrs ago.  although effexor xr (75 mg) works really well for me, i have been forced to stop cold turkey a couple of times during the decade (because of insurance issues & the huge expense of this drug).  the withdrawl, during the few times i stopped, was absolutely horrible.
once again, i am in between insurance plans and can't afford effexor xr.  my doc has given me sample packs of "pristiq," and advised when i am out of effexor xr 75mg to start taking 50mg of pristiq desvenlafaxine.
has anyone tried this, and if so, was there any type of bad withdrawl?
thanks for any and all info!  have a good day.

Hello Kathy,

Pristiq is the newest antidepressant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which  hit the U.S. market back a  few months ago.  Pristiq is a drug similar in composition to Wyeth’s existing antidepressant, Effexor XR.

Pristiq has shown the same level of effectiveness as many other antidepressants on the market today.  I believe it costs more then the Effexor XL.  They are made by same company.

Effexor does come in a generic form but not the Effexor XL.

I have never taken either.  I have a huge co-pay so I try to stick with the generics if possible.

Good Luck.
