Since I've posted a few times, I thought it'd be polite if I introduce myself. I'm serafena. I moderate the bipolar board, but I've been cruising the depression board for the last week or so to help out Kitt and Karen, who are both working girls now. I promise to mostly keep to myself, but here and there I can't help but stick my nose in. :-)

Depression is a way of life for me, unfortunately. I know some of you are familiar with bipolar disorder, but those of you who are not probably at least know that we swing back and forth between mania and depression regularly. I have bipolar II, which means that I have low-grade manias, called hypomanias which involve not the huge flights of fancy and breaks from reality that you get with true mania, but instead I get irritable, feel like jumping out of my skin, clean my house compulsively, feel like I can complete 20 projects at once, get mad very easily, talk too fast, twitch, etc. You get the picture. It's not pleasant. But most of the time, I'm depressed, and the depressions go deep. I've only been hospitalized once -- knock on wood. Right now, thanks to a bunch of medicine (I'm on 5) I'm stable. But stable for bipolar means we swing just a little. I have good days and bad days but it doesn't rule my life. Yay.

Other than that, I'm 36 years old, I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who's an absolute pistol, I'm married to a rock of a man and I have a part time job working as a barista.

It's nice meeting you all and I hope to get to know you better.

Hi Serafena! I’m really glad to get to know you. I have only been here a few months, but already I can see the immense value of this support group. It has really been helpful to me to read and share with others about depression.

I’m glad you explained about Bipolar II, because I didn’t know much about that. It’s really good that you have a solid husband and a beautiful daughter – that must be wonderful, and I’m happy for you.

I won’t get into a huge song and dance about my story, as I’ve blabbed incessantly on here over the past few months, but in a nutshell, I am recently divorced, after an abusive marriage, and I have suffered from depression since I was a young child. I am currently in therapy, and it’s been wonderful… therapist has been a true lifesaver for me. She has given me a ton of ‘homework’, as I call it, which has been difficult for me, but it’s totally been worth it.

Thanks for introducing yourself. I’m glad you’re giving Kitt and Karen a hand here. I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Thank you so much my friend, your help is truly appreciated.  Also I know you have walked in the shoes of depresssion for a long time and that makes us kindred spirits.

Thanks to much for helping in my absence. I just popped in really quick before I go to work and saw your post.

My job is going good so far, but very fast paced, I just hope that I can do it. So far so good as they say. I hope to learn more tonight, as on Monday I have to work by myself. It is the paperwork that I am afraid of. I do good with the customers.

Again thank you so much for coming on the forum. I am sure that everybody will love you here as you are a very good moderator.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Karen
