Hi everyone,
Im a 50 year old guy with Crohn's and arthritis. Ive been in a flare for over a year with some good days but mostly rough ones. I have noticed that friends and family seem to be drifting....have drifted...away. I dont' personally know anyone else with my disease and so finding someone who understands has been impossible. It has come to the point that I feel so alone and isolated from the world that depression has completely taken over my life. I still talk to family and friends but everyone only wants to tell me how busy their lives are and I sit and listen and get more and more depressed. I feel anger, sadness, lonliness, hopelessness, and fear all at the same time. I live alone so I have way too much alone time and then start feeling guilty because I have no desire to do anything anymore. sometimes I go days without showering or anything else because it feels like whats the use. This isn't normal and the more I stress about it the worse I feel. I feel like I need a sense of hope or something to look forward to again and there's just nothing there. Im hoping that simply writing this out might give me some perspective. I made an appointment with a counseler this morning but thats 2 weeks away. Seems like forever from now. Thanks for reading.
Crohns 30 years. Ileostomy for 15 years. Symptom free for 14 years until 10 months ago. Was on Remicade but just recently switched to Humira because remicade stopped working, B-12 injections and iron.
God Bless. Tony

Tony, I know just what you are going thru right now.  I have been in this forum for a while because of depression. But recently I have had bad diverticulitis and have an abcess that has to be removed surgically.  Have to wait 8 weeks. I was in the hospital for 6 days. I know how hard it is to go thru all of what you are experiencing.  Yes, friends do seem to disappear or not pay much attention.  Unless you go thru a bad illness it is hard for others to understand.  And the lonliness can be overwhelming. I hope it has helped you to write about your experience.  If you need someone to talk to I will always be glad to answer your posts.  Maybe we can help each other during this hard time. I have 2 sons. one lives with me but is at work during the day. Both are wonderful but not always around or available. I will be alone all weekend and am dreading it. So hard when you don't have people to talk to. I really need that human contact. I really would be glad to help you or talk to you if you want.  Everyone says take it one day at a time, well it is more like taking it one hour at a time.  I will be thinking of you and will keep you in my  prayers.

Hi Yellowfin,

I know that it is hard especially when you have physical ailments. But I am glad that you have posted here. We are here to support you.

You have been given some really good advice. Do you take anything for depression or go to any counseling? I would strongly recommend that at this point. I am glad that you are reaching out and I hope that we can support you so that you will feel better.

Please keep posting as we are here for you.

Hugs, Karen

Hey Tony,

I just wanted to send out some big hugs to you. I am so glad that you have reached out to talk about your feelings. Here at Healingwell you are never alone. I am glad that you are meeting with a therapist soon, I was really helped by mine.

Heeja Tony,

I want to wish you all the very best, and give you a big fat hug :-). I hope your counselor can help you sort things out. In the meantime, aren't there things you used to enjoy doing? Maybe you can buy yourself a model ship to put together if that is something you like, or write a book, or whatever you want.

All the very best my friend!
