I think my fiance is having some issues with depression. He has a sense of hopeless, like nothing will get better. He tells me no one likes him even though that's very untrue. He doesn't want to clean. He says there's no point (and I don't clean either... so this place is not doing well). He mostly just plays video games. And apparently someone commented on a photo of his that he was "Holy fat Naruto" (A cartoon character he dressed as for Halloween). He was almost in tears. He cried today because I had an angry outburst (I'm bipolar and I have anger issues when I don't have abilify, which I ran out and am getting very soon) and said he stinks. I apologized, but I feel horrible. He really doesn't stink (only a little when he works real hard). I appreciate and love him to death. I hate seeing him like this. I know part of it is dealing with my issues (especially without my abilify). Part of it is drama at work. Part of it is that he can't get back in school without his parents cosigning/applying for loans (which they refuse to do). But I think he really needs someone to talk to. I know he does.

Finally, today, he said he'd maybe talk to someone (like a therapist/counselor) if I found someone that would charge on a sliding fee scale. I found two. Now he's refusing to even make an appointment and I don't know what to do. He's the love of my life. I can't see him in such pain anymore.

Help... :(

P.S. He has never seen a psychiatrist. He went to a family counselor for his mom's depression for a little while. He has insurance but it doesn't cover mental health services.

Hi there,

Welcome to the depression forum. I think you are right, your bf needs to talk to somebody. Only he can help himself.

I hope you get your abilify soon. I take it too and it helps a lot. I don't know what I would do with out it.

Keep posting as we are here for you. I hope that he feels better soon. Try to keep talking to him about therapy. It sounds like he really needs it.

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen
