I went to see a few before but I was always forced to. By schools that thought I was a danger to the rest of the student body and by my parents who were fighting for control. It always seemed silly the idea of telling someone what was in my head. My parents would just use it to hurt each other and me. Talking never solved problems growing up. Hiding out and living far enough in your head to where you couldn't be hurt was all that worked. You just dig a hole deep inside yourself and hide from the screaming and loneliness.
Now everything in my life is about to change. I'll be hundreds of miles from everything I ever knew. I have no idea what I'm going to do when I get there. I'm only 18 all the doctors I've been through think my depression is a phase and I'll just pop out of it. They never believed me when I told them that leaving my house made me sick from nerves. Talking to people made me freeze up. That when I was working my body would be in a state of terror.
I feel like if I try and talk to another doctor about this they will do the same thing as before. Tell me I'm to young and it's most likely a phase and then hand me drugs that don't do anything except make me even more sick.
Just thinking about seeing another doctor is making me sick.

Happy Wednesday everyone.

Hi Mania_saae,
I guess you aren't going to know anything until you get there.  Why are you moving so far from home?  Work or school?  Facing new doctors is scarey.  I have to do that this month.  My pain management doctor retired and both my husband and I have to go to a new one.  I have no clue as to whether he is going to continue my pain meds.  I will find out next week.  If not, I may have to find another doctor.  And that isn't going to be any fun at all.  I have no clue as to where to start.  So wish me luck.
If you see a counselor such as a psyhologist, you don't have to worry about taking medications because they don't prescribe.  But if they feel that you need them they will refer you to a psychiatrist.  Psychiatrists prescribe medications, but don't counsel much.
Have you had bad side effects from medications?  I have had my share.  But I finally found some that don't give me bad side effects.  There are a lot to choose from.  They keep coming out with newer ones all the time.  I just switched from 375mg of effexor a day to 100mg of pristiq.  And I take abilify (which really helps) and xanax to go with it.  The xanax is for anxiety and the abilify is a mood stabilizer.
I hope that you find what is the right method for you.  Be it counseling or medication.  I do hope to see you feeling better in the near future.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
Hugs, Karen

Hi Mania_saae,

There is nothing wrong with sharing your concerns with your doctor.
I left 2 doctors because they would not listen to me. My 3rd attempt was successful. At this point, I will not see any doctor in that practice except for her.
Sounds like you are frustrated and dont know where to go at this point...try a new doctor...share your concerns from the get go and remember, YOU KNOW YOURSELF, YOU KNOW HOW YOU is their job to listen to your concerns and try to help....

I cant wait to hear how it goes!
