Recently there was a post about a song, which gave me a thought, why don't we share our "healing songs" or should I say the songs that helped us through rough days or songs that we hear when the depression hits.
And as the Forum is full of different generations, people from different walks of life,I'm guessing there would be quite some exchange.

It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony.
Benjamin Britten

Josh Groban - you are loved.

U Tube it, I love his music, and when I feel all alone, I am pulled towards this song.

In the arms of the Angels - Sarah McLachlan.

This was the first song I heard after hearing my Dad had passed, and was the first time I heard it. I am always close to Dad when I hear it even after all these years

use them for growth......that's what i do. yeah i remember, cry, but i am moved
by my love for my georgia....as she is always with me, and i am always with her. more than a song, but the song is sheer beauty, thus the sharing of it always fills my heart with beautiful memories of the love that we shared. jamie.

Not familiar with these except "In the Arms of an Angel" to which I sob hysterically, was difficult in the day, when driving the car and had to click it off when the kids were along.

Any suggestions as to how I can have a listen to these without going out and buying?

One I did love when the kids were little "It Ain't Easy Being Green" from Kermit the frog on Sesame St. Albums
OH wait, more are coming back. Tie a Yellow Ribbon "round the Old Oak Tree, My Eyes Adored Ya, Love the Way you Love Me, Song by Minnie Ripperton, ? Whenever I Look Into Your eyes. Deeply emotional ! Easily found if you have 60s or 70s anthologies. And you all do, right? ?

Good idea, Annie. Thanks

T2U - google U Tube, and click on music, and then type in the artist name and search. It's a great site, but we may lose you in there for a few hours, lol

We lost a dear friend to cancer about 6 years ago who was only 38 years old.  This was her favorite song so when I am feeling down and depressed I will listen to "Mary's Song" remembering how much she loved life and I find peace in my heart.

I have many songs I use to help me and sometimes listening to a song that reminds me of some who was or is special in my life helps me to pick myself up and keep on keeping on !

Many gentle hugs,
Kitt

I sometims find music is the only way to soothe the madness. I especially love to hear Annie Lennox sing the words from I've got a life"...

"I've got a light though it refuses to shine i've got a life it aint over it aint over i've got a way it's the only thing that's mine ..."

I also enjoy Blue October. Justin Furstenfeld, singer/songwriter, puts his own struggles with mental illness into incredible music.
Sometimes a day is too much to take at one time so instead of telling myself "Have a great day!", I say "When you can dahlin, have a happy now." I wish us all more happy nows.

Some music can give you headaches. I used to get headaches as a teenager when I listened to pop music for more than a couple of hours. I hated that, because I wanted to listen to pop all the time. But I knew that classical music made me feel better.

I have too many to list, music is such an integral part of my life, it's there, always. But some of the best music for me when I'm down is My Chemical Romance. Anything they've done. They go out of their way to tell their fans "hey, you're not alone, we have issues too" and they've made those issues public. They have many interviews, publicity statments, you name it, about how no matter how bad you feel, no matter what bad things are happening, or how messed up you might think you are or how alone you may feel - you aren't - there are other people out there just like you, and they are some of those people. You'll see in my sig, a quote from Gerard, their vocalist. It's just a prime example of them. Frank Iero has one too, "This band saves lives." And it's true. I can't tell you how many people from their fandom that I have spoken to - kids and people with their own problems, those hiding from the world, on the verge of saying goodbye forever - and this band has come along and lifted them up, made them know that life is worth living.

I have a tattoo on my left wrist - it's a lyric from their song "Famous Last Words" and it says "I am not afraid to keep on living". It's there to remind me not to do the destructive things that I am prone to, that no matter what, it will get better, that I've gotten through tough stuff before. It's not always easy - and I do slip up - but I always feel better listening to these guys - it really is like having a comfy blanket to wrap yourself in.

on another note - I can hear In the Arms of the Angels by Sarah MacLachlan (sp?) without bawling - they use it on those ads for animal welfare and those break my heart. I have to turn the channel. Now when I hear that song, my stomach turns. My heart just can't take it.

Like Seriouslysmitten post, and tattoo reminder on her wrist.
Never heard of that band but will look them up, My Chemical Romance.
Sounds interesting.
Annie, regarding your planned tattoo, "the reason is you", am wondering who you is? Hope you are not treading murky waters and making a last ditch effort to hang onto the past.
Dancing, wonderful outlet. You could schedule an outing for every Fri night or something.

Oh no no ! it's not for my past. It's for my grand father, mom and my best friend. The three people I love the most. They have been the biggest support in my life, and maybe the only reason why I'm still here.

Will give you the link, dunno if you would like it,but the lyrics might help !

Hey Siobhan,
we share a fav. Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park shouts me out. I love the song it so related to people suffering from depression.

Another song I love by LP is NUMB.
