I am currrently taking Cymbalta and I have not had any serious side effects. In fact, it's been the one drug I've tried that has not had many. I have side effects if I miss a couple of doses, but it's helped me and I would not worry about it. It may take a little while to work..up to a month, but I felt effects in 2 weeks. Good luck to you, and I'm here if you need. I just found this site and am hoping to find some support myself :-)

Hopefuloflife and Fullofpain,

I would like to welcome both of you to the forum. You definately have come to a good place and I think you will like it here. It can be a lot of fun here. And we do all support eachother.

I have understood that it takes this ad four to six weeks to take full effect, but some people feel it sooner. I myself haven't taken cymbalta, but I have tried different med and find that what works for some doesn't mean the same for others. But it is nice to get a chance to know what other have gone through so you know kind of what to expect.

I believe that others on here have taken cymbalta, so I imagine you will get some answers tomorrow. I hope that the medication works for you.

Hugs, Karen

You are definately not alone here. Some of us have had to try many ads before we find what works for us. It can be rather frustrating. I have tried my share. But finally found the right mix. Just never give up. And remember, just because a lot of side effects are listed, doesn't mean you will get them. And if you do, they usually go away in a couple of weeks. Now I am different, I usually do good on the drug and get the side effects a couple of months after taking it. That can be a huge disappointment. But like I say, I finally found what works for me. I hope that you do too. Mostly remember, you are not alone when you are here.

Hugs, Karen

i've never been on cymbalta. i've been on zoloft (TOTAL nightmare for me) and wellbutrition. (which was better) don't be too scared to try it though, if it's not the medicine for you, they can always switch your meds later. and who knows, it might work really well for you

I have been on many of the meds and with each new one I was always worried about the side effects.  I was on Cymbalta at one time for over a year.  I got past the side effects and also weaned off of the medication without problems.

Try not to overthink the topic and just go for it.  It does take willpower to stick with the med if you notice some side effects as we all become afraid the medication is making us worse so hang in there and give the med a fair chance.

I am scared of going back on meds too, but I need to, it is not working for me without them, I am not coping, I want to try something new, but not sure what, like yourself, I read up on things and it scares me reading the POSSIBLE side effects, but even paracetamol can have serious side effects. Its sucks that there is no blood test or better still urine (hate needles) test to see what exact chemical would work right for that particular person. I have been on effexor years ago and it worked really well, but I am unable to get back on it, it causes severe sweating and makes my body temperature run so high, and zoloft makes me gain weight and unable to sleep same as effexor, and panic attacks are always worse at beginning.
Let me know how you go with cymbalta, my friends been on it for years and she will be for life.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I hope you will discuss with your Dr. the many different medications available.  My pdoc always gives me the pros and cons of the medications.  I thought the last time I went back on meds that I had tried them all but she reassured me that there were new meds and combinations that we could try.  I have added Lamictal to my cocktail as I have the most problems with being depressed and feeling sad.  I am still working my way up to the full dosage but I do feel like my moods have evened out better.

I even asked if I could be bipolar and the answer after disscussion was no - my sx are pure Major Depressive Disorder.

I hope the Cymbalta is not causing you to many side effects as you get onto this medication.  I actually started this medication and worked daily without problems.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Kindly,
Kitt
