Hello, I am new to the Forum. I am 67 female and have been very depressed this last year. I have been on prozac for about 15+ and have been in therapy for the last 3 months. I had a 2 level back fusion that left me with some disabilities and the surgery did not help. I take pain meds daily and have an alcoholic 47 year old son. I have tired other antidepressants and they have not helped. I have also tried abilify with prozac and wellbutrin and cannot take either one of them because of the side effects they cause. Does anybody have any ideas for me. Thank you.

Hi Twinks,

I am sorry about your pain situation. I know how back problems can effect our lives. I take pristiq and abilify together and it is a good combination for me. Have you tried risperdol? It is another good one. Mood stabilizer is what I use it for. I think risperdol is really similar.

There are still a lot of meds out there. Sometimes it takes a while to find what is going to work for us. It took me a few tries, well, kind of had to keep going stronger and stronger. And some of the side effects were unbearable. But I finally have come to find what works for me.

Talk therapy helps a lot. How have you been doing with that? I hope that you have a good therapist. It is important to vent. Coming here can help you with that.

Are you able to walk around? What about water therapy? Do you think that will help you any? I know that the pain can effect our depression. I gets us into a funk that is hard to get out of. If you can get out and walk, that is good for the body and the mind. Also meditation helps to focus and gets our mind off of things.

Keep posting, I am sure that others will have some ideas too. I hope that this finds you feeling better.

Hugs, Karen

Thanks for your reply. I have tried resperdrol. It did not work well, I forget now why. I do have a good therapist. He is Jewish and brings in a lot of spirituality into my therapy which really helps me. Still unfamiliar as to how this site works and where the replys come. Did not see yours until I went into something called threads.

You will find your way around. I just posted too. So maybe that is why you just saw it. But this is a wonderful site with many wonderful members. You will get a lot of support here.

I am so sorry that the meds aren't working for you. I am sure that we can find other options for you. Which is bothering you the most? The pain or the depression? Often when you get one squared away, the other follows. Some antidepressants help with pain. Freedom from pain makes us feel better. I hope that you find some answers soon.

Hugs, Karen
