I'm new, so let me just say Hello to everyone.

I'm an only child and I've always wanted a big brother, not a big sister, but a big brother. I found out two years ago that my mom was gonna have a boy, then she had a miscarriage, then me, then a stillborn. I've always envied anyone with a big brother, because they have someone that loves, protects, and picks on them. I've always looked up to the Jonas Brothers, because in a strange way, I've always felt like they were brothers to me. Lately, I've really wanted a big brother. I just want someone to talk to me, to care, to protect me. I've always thought, ' what if ______'s parents died, and then we adopted him... then he'd be my big brother and that would be perfect. I've wrote about having a big brother and everything. I have dreams about having a big brother. And because of it, I think I have become depressed. Also, my mom doesn't let me like have friends over, she says its because my room isnt clean. But even when its clean I can't have friends over. I don't really have a question or anything. But I really wish I had a big brother....

Hello and welcome to HealingWell,
Sure it's possible be be depressed because you are an only child, or because you are lonely. Day-dreaming of having rock stars in your family is something we have all done when we were young teens.
Sometimes other's lifes look more fun then our own or we know people who seem to have life better then  us.  I have an acquaintance in Texas who lived right on the same street as the Jonas brothers when they moved into their home in 2008.
I was impressed and tried to imagine what it would be like to live in a gated community.  My acquaintance built a new house and move down the street aways into another community.
Enjoy your friends from school and ejnoy your teen years as they go by fast.

I know a little bit about what you are going through. I had a brig brother that passed when I was at a young age. When he was gone it always felt like his spot was open but with no one to fill it. At the same time I didn't want anyone else to fill it either.

in your situation you may want to look into perhaps joining a Big Brother or similar mentoring program. There are people that will help to give you the security you seek while keeping things fun and entertaining. They normally spend a few hours with you each week. You can try checking the phone book or even doing a google search for your local area.
I try to live everyday like it's my last. That means I put 110% into everything I do and you should too :) |

Hi AF,

I think you would qualify to get a big brother. I liked that suggestion. You sound like you do need a mentor. I think it would do you good. So do check that out. Talk to your school counselor and see if there is anything that they can do.

It sounds like you could use a little guidance. So take life one day at a time. Enjoy your youth. You sound like a good person and that is a good thing. Check with your counselor and see if they can help you.

Hugs, Karen
