Hello Forum,

I'm a noob to this site and to depression and antidepressants. I've had some health issues over the past year that have made me feel unhappy and unmotivated about life. Three days ago I began taking Wellbutrin, and I have a couple of questions about it:

First, how long does it normally take before I will notice any change in my mood? Three hours after taking my first dose I felt extraordinarily happy, but I think that was psychosomatic.

Second, my insurance does not cover pharmaceuticals. Wellbutrin is going to cost me over $50.00 a month. Is there a comparable, but less expensive drug?

hi davecholly, jamie here.

first welcome 2 the forum. anti-depressants on average take between 6-8 weeks for the full theraputic effect, however you may start noticing changes earlier. 3 days, yes it maybe psychosomatic. i hope you begin to feel better soon. this is a wonderful forum with good people. i look forward to sharing with you. with healing compassion, jamie.

I think fifty dollars is pretty cheap for an antidepressant. Mine are over five hundred. There is a medical help program that Kitt knows about. I think it is a drug discount card. She will post it I am sure. I am going to have to write it down so that I can remember it.

I think it is possible to feel better after three days. I think it is a good sign that the med will work for you. hang in there.

Hugs, Karen

Thanks so much Kitt. I copied that down so I don't have to keep asking you to post it. You are such a good soul.

Thanks again...

Hugs, Karen

PS Dave, I hope that this helps you. I have insurance and one of my copays is 40.00. The therapist is going to help me by giving me samples. I can't afford it. But with her help, hopefully I will be able to stay on it. Sometimes they will double up on the dose so that you can break tablets in half and use them for two months instead of three. Good luck with this...

You all make me feel welcome here.

$500 per month for antidepressants? Holy guacamole. My local pharmacist collects somewhere around that much from me as well, but that includes several drugs for other ailments.

I've bookmarked needymeds.org and will have a look as soon as I've finished reading this nice forum.

That is just for one of my antidepressants. I have insurance and the copay is 40.00. I take about ten different kinds of medications. It gets expensive even with insurance. I will be getting some samples too and that will help a lot.
