Hey, was looking for a diagnosis of sorts
For a few months i've been feeling really down. My parents both have a history in metal depression and my mother has SAD. They're both alcoholics and drug users. I turned 16 today, and i've been feeling so unhappy lately. I find myself putting on a mask and then when i'm alone i'll just start crying. I sleep way too much, and have lost interest in a lot of things. I can't concentrate and I feel empty and lonely. I have a severly low self esteem, and a lot of the time i feel worthless and useless. I didn't really know where else to go, sorry for the lengthy insight.
Hope to get a reply, thanks

Hi there,

Welcome to the HealingWell Depression forum. Honestly, we can't diagnose you, but we can share experiences with you and let you know that we do understand how you feel. The best thing that you could do for yourself is see a counselor of some sorts and get a diagnosis that way. They would know for sure.

There are many symptoms of depression. Loss of interest, constantly wanting to sleep, extreme fatigue, irritability, crying, pain. And more. But there are different degrees of depression. Some have it much worse than others. But if you catch it early, it is easier to get a grip on it.

So do talk to somebody. Let them know all of what you have been going through. Let us know how it goes.

Hugs, Karen

karen is exactly right mia. your doc is a good place to start, esp as you can be assessed. write down what has been happening, it will guide the doctor better. and yes, happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! things will get better. glad that you have recognised that some help is needed. well done, know that we are here for you. with compassion, jamie
