Hi all,
I have been a member on here for a while, but i haven't been on for a long time and forgot my login details, so had to start a new profile blush

I was on citalopram for my depression for about 2/3 years, i was on 60mg a day. I have been weaning myself off them for the past 3 weeks to go onto sertraline, I am on my last week of the citalopram.

My weight the past few years has always been about 8 and a half stone, unless i really dieted, then i went down to 7st 6. but over the past 1-2weeks, i have lost 5lb, i have not been dieting. I have taken anything dairy out of my diet due to IBS, but apart from that nothing has changed.

Could it just be that the citalopram was keeping my weight up or could it be something else? rolleyes

Hi Amz,

I don't know for sure which would be causing you to lose weight. It does sound like it could be the medication. Do you remember gaining any weight when you went on it? Dairy can make a difference though, I think it has a lot of fat in it. Maybe it is a combination of the two. I am trying to lose weight. Five pounds would be wonderful for me. I am losing rather gradually, but none the less I am losing. Which is good. I am much more active in the spring and summer than I am in the winter. So that is encouraging for me. I hope you figure out what is going on. I hope that you don't lose too much weight.

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen

Amz please please can you ask your doctor if Sertaline is the right drug for you to go on. I was on sertaline and I was extremely depressed and suicidal from it.

I hope you are well x

Thankyou for the replies.
Karen, I can't remember putting on any weight when I started the citalopram, but it was almost 3 years ago now.

I have to go to the doctors next week for some test results, so I will speak to him about the weight loss.

Thanks all

Glad thta you are talking to the doc about it, it could be nothing, but it could be different. I hope it is nothing for your sake. The doc should have some answers or tests they can do. I use to lose weight really easy when I was in my 20's not that way anymore. Boo hoo. I could stand to lose a lot, going very slow, but going.

I hope this finds you having a good day. Keep posting and take care.

Hugs, Karen
