Hi there,

I have fibromyalgia and am always in pain. I also can't do what I use to be able to. And in the meantime I have gotten nine years older. It is hard. But I have learned to take life one day at a time and that helps a lot.

How long before your surgery? I hope that you feel a lot better afterwards. Though it seems people do tend to get a little depression after surgery, so if that happens, know that it will go away. I think it is all the stress that seems to build up before hand. Then after the surgery there is always the healing process, which can seem like it lasts forever before you feel better. But don't lose hope during this period as you will feel better in time.

Keep posting and know that we care.

Hugs, Karen

PS What is 'thoracic outlet syndrome'?

How can you be yourself when you are dealing with that kind of pain? Try and hold until, hopefully post op will find you feeling better.

Good luck

thanks everyone ,Karen your post helped me alot ,I am lucky Ican get surgery, which has agood chance of working ,as for fibromyalgia there is no cure ,Idonot know alot about it do you need to take pain meds or does Lyrica help ?My dr gave me Lyrica but it didnot seem to help,I find for me that pain meds dont help that much.I find it hard to keep my spirits up ,when a simple thing like vacuming is hard to do !This site is so supportive Iam glad I joined as it nice to know someone understands .take care everyone ,from michele

Sore42long,

Lyrica can take awhile to get into your system I believe. I would give it a good six to eight weeks before you give up on it. I take norco. But I have to take six a day. I would like something stronger, but I build up a tolerance so I don't want to go up the pain med scale too fast.

I am so happy that you are finding support here. There really is a great group of members here. Do you ever go on the fibromyalgia forum? There is a lot of support there also.

They say that vacuuming is one of the hardest things for a fibromite to do. I believe that it is the constant back and forth movement on the arms and shoulders. I am lucky, I can do it, but I don't enjoy it. Though I am always happy that I did it. But it can be hard on us.

Remember to continually pace yourself. Sometimes we want to get everything done at once, and that can lead to a flare. So take breaks frequently and do gentle stretches. That really helps.

I hope that you are having a good Good Friday. And I hope that you have a happy Easter Weekend. Keep posting.

Hugs, Karen

Karen thanks for mentioning the vacuming ,it makes me not feel so guilty !Yes the last 4 months have been very hard on me,not sure why .Ihave had to give up doing so much sometimes stay in bed most of the day!It feels like I have given up on myself,However today I came to that realization, that Imust look after myself better ,Ieven went for a walk and out to store with neighbour,it helped it was a nice sunnyday!I am sore now ,but I plan to ,do as much as Ican but take it easy !Ialso will go on the fibromyalgia site as it is similar to TOS. Iwas on Paxil but off now ,it seemed it made me more depressed, also I gained 15 pounds ,Iwas underweight before ,yet Ifeel so uncomfortable with the extra pounds on .It is hard to deal with pain 24 hrs a day ,also pain meds and the so many things that Ican no longer do. thanks for all the words of wisdom ,takecare
