Hi. I am been feeling very down recently. I feel like I need to get attention form everyone I can because I never got positive attention growing up. I will do things that my parents do not like just so that I get attention from them. I feel like I always have to be miserable and if I feel happy I try to sabotage it. I do not know how to be happy. I need help. Can anybody help me?

Maybe i should add that I am 24 years old, I work full time and cannot moveout until late august.

hi, jamie here, male and 38. sounds like there are a few things going on. my strong suggestion would be to look at some counselling. it will really sought stuff out and you will learn why certain things are happening and moreso you will be given tools to combat them. i am in therapy, have been for ages, on and off. best move i ever made. also having a chat with your dr will be beneficial as well. your dr can assess and organise some plans and or on referal to compassionate people who can be of help to you. a suggestion : me, i write stuff down, it helps get it out of your head, i also keep busy. try not to isloate ok. keep well and welcome to the forum. beleive in you ok!! take care, with compassion, jamie

Seek out help from a doctor or psychologist, as it can be of help...
with professional help you might be able to feel better about yourself and your life,
you still have a lot to look forward to in life, have you thought about going
to college or a trade school??? maybe it's time to get a better job even, family only
plays a small part in life and you don't have to let your family define you...
your a good person...remember that....
* So many dx's I could write a book* "It would be nice if we could use the edit button in real life"...

Therapy will help teach you that you don't need the attention that you seek. You will feel good and strong with or without it. I myself am the opposite. I don't like the attention on myself.

I hope that you do take everybodies advice on this one. I think that the fact that you have noticed this trait gives you the upper hand and you will be able to change this.

Best wishes,

Hugs, Karen
