Hi there!
I have been suffering from immobilizing depression since my mom passed away three years ago.
The worst symptom is how much I sleep, if not forcibly waken up I can sleep for 20 hours every day. I find it impossible to get out of bed.

In January of 2010 my doctor put me on cilexa, it did not seem to help so she switched me to wellbutrin which made me nauseous a lot of the time and very angry. She has just prescribed me paxil and I want to get better but I know it will just make me more depressed if I gain weight.
I have tried significant amounts of counselling but it has not made a big enough chance for me to live my life.
I need something that will wake me up, motive and energize me, NO WEIGHT GAIN, and help lift my moods.

HELP!

i would go and talk with your doc. your more UP type of anti-depressants are prozac and pristiq. however please talk with your dr about this to see if they would suit your situation better. i am not a dr. however i know through many others of the postive effects of these two meds. take care of you. i hope this information helps. maybe when you are feeling better you can possibly resume counselling. maybe a mood stabiliser may help you as well. with healing compassion, jamie.

ps welcome to the forum baileypatricia.

Hi Baileypatricia,

I hope that the meds work for you. It can be a lot of trial and error until you find the right one, just don't give up. I take pristiq and love it, it is fairly new, but expensive. I also take abilify and xanax. But it took me a long itme to find the rifght mix. Best wishes to you. Typing very slow today Should feel better as I exercisde my hands. Keep posting.

Hugs, Karen

Hello! Have you already started on the Paxil, or just have the script for it?? If you have not started taking it, you may want to talk again with the doc about the meds mentioned above by the other posters...I was on Paxil for 7-8 years and did fine, it did help my depression go away but just recently suffered the poop out...does not mean the med would poop out on you, but it did for me. Probably because I am not taking mood stabilizer like I should. Doc just switched me to Cymbalta and will be adding mood stabilizer probably Monday.....if you are seeing a good doc (in my opinion I would only see specialists for mental health conditions, not your family physician), they should know a lot about the meds that work and the weight gain, etc. You can also research them online, but be careful there is more negative information that positive online when searching because my doc says 95% of people who are doing well on the medications dont get online to grip or post!! HA!

Just want to encourage you to not give up on trying different meds and consulting with your doc as that is what they are trained for and this forum has some GREAT knowledgeable people who give great advise I have learned!
