hello all,
i have had bouts of depression of and on for years, but the past several months have been particularly hard on me.  its to the point where i get anxiety leaving my house, i feel empty on the inside, some days i hate getting out of bed.  it is going un treated because i have no insurance, and am having difficulty finding someone to see me.  i am on a waiting list for an appointment in july, but i just cant wait.  i spoke with an advocate counselor last week, who has a family member that suffers from bipolar and depression, he reccomended i go to teh hospital, it sounded like the people there could help me, it gave me a few moments of hope, when i told my parents about it, they said absolutely not, they think i will be abused and end up worst off then i am  now, i want to go, but i just dont know what to do, i need help, iv told them that to the point where im crying and begging, i just cant live like this anymore,
do any of u have any advice, im 26 but live at home

Hi LadyLaura,

If you feel the hospital will help you, by all means go. You are 26 and can make your own decisions. Do this for yourself. Look for crisis numbers that you could call and talk to somebody.

Here are a couple of sites that might help you.

You will have to copy and paste them into your browser because I am using quick reply and they don't show up blue. Remember you are your own person and should be able to make your own decisions. Do you work? Maybe it is time you look for your own place, this could have something to do with your depression, living with parents. I don't know though. Just kind of grasping at straws.

Hugs, Karen

from someone who has had many many hospitalisations i say go, esp if you feel at risk. they can get the ball rolling for you whilst there and whilst there you will be treated. remember that you are an adult. with much healing compassion, jamie.

you do what is right for you. had similar probs with my family when i first became mentally unwell. they need educating. can someone advocate on your behalf and help to educate them a bit? this sounds like a very unfair scare tactic, frankly it is cruel and unfair. much healing compassion to you.

I know they wont wash their hands of you for getting help. If you feel you need hospitalization, then by all means do it.

We are all here for you.

I am so sorry that you have to wait so long to see a doc! Are there any free programs offered by the state that you might be able to go to? I am sorry that you have to deal with the fact that your family says they will wash their hands of you for going to hospital, that is very mean and cruel, you cannot help mental illness and you wanting to get help is awesome -- bravo to you!

You may be able to call a local hospital who will be able to give you infomration on any free mental health centers there might be in your area, that way you wont have to be in the hospital right away if it is not needed, but if it is needed, go with your gut, if you feel that it will benefit you, by all means do what you need to to feel better.....you have many years ahead of you that can be really good years if you will get this depression put to bed, and treat it.

I hope this info has helped, and keep posting we are all here to listen and help anyway we can! All have been there done that!

God Bless -- Stephanie
