Hi jelly-fish: Welcome to Healing Well and nice to meet you! We are a tight knit group (like a second family to me) that is always here for each other. If you get a moment and would like to share something about yourself, we'd love the opportunity to get to know you!

Well, I'm a 16 year old girl from Tennessee, a junior in high school, a genius according to my IQ, and I'm a runner. I've had depression since I was 9 years old and have been on zoloft, lexapro, and luvox since then. Also, just recently I started having symptoms of OCD, which made my depression a lot worse, so I've started going to therapy, which hasn't helped much. I've come to this forum, looking for others who have been through some of the same things I have and can hopefully help me because my family and friends haven't exactly been the most supportive. Lately, I've been more miserable than I usually am, and after months of doing nothing have decided to fight back, but realized that I can't do this alone.

Thanks for the fast reply Cass.

Hi Jelly-fish,

Welcome to the HealingWell Depression forum. I am so glad that you have joined us. I had to take one sentence out of your post as we aren't allowed to discuss self harm or suicide here. I hope that you can understand.

It sounds like you are very, very smart. That is cool. I am sorry that you suffer with OCD and depression too. You have been on a lot of different meds for your age. I tried several before I found what worked for me. Are you on meds now? Which ones do you take? Do you go to counseling too? It really does help.

Coming here helps too. It is nice to know that you aren't alone in the way that you feel. There are many others who know what you are going through and can sympathise with you.

I hope that you feel better soon and I hope that you continue to post.

Hugs, Karen

Hi Karen. Sorry about the bad sentence. I was part of another forum where we could mention those kinds of things, but that forum is having technical difficulties. Anyways, now I'm on 200 mg of Luvox and I go to CBT, but it seems like neither is working out for me. Plus I don't really like the idea of being on meds.

None of us want to be on meds. I am on three different things, pristiq, abilify and xanax. And what scares me is I know I need them and if for any reason I wasn't able to get them, I would be in a really bad place. So I really wish I didn't have to take medicatoins.

CBT is wonderful. I am glad that you are going. I think it just takes time. Then one day you realize, that yes, I am feeling better. But we are always going to have the regular ups and downs in life. It is just that there should be more ups than downs.

I hope that you continue to post here. The weekends are kind of slow and this being a holiday weekend makes it even more slow, but we do have some wonderful members. It does good to talk about things. And you will make friends here. We also have chat if you want to try it. I understand that it is more busy in the evenings than the daytime.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Karen

Thanks. The thing that scares me about meds is not only what you said, but also when I see the commercials for law firms about taking antidepressants during pregnancy. If it can do things like that to a baby inside me, then what does it do to me, you know?

I know,

Taking meds stinks. But mine do help me, and I know what I am like without them. The counseling has helped me a lot. I have gone for most of my life and I am 52. It seems to keep my head straight. Sometimes it doesn't seem like counseling at all, just more like conversation between two people. I enjoy it. But it must be working because I feel pretty good. Not everyday is perfect, but there are a lot better than not.

There is a book also on CBT called "the new mood therapy" or "feeling good" by Dr. David Burns M.D. I don't know if you have read it, but it is a pretty good book. I think that you would fing it useful.

It's just really hard when it seems like NOTHING is working.
