I've been on Lexapro for about a year now and been doing okay. I'm also on a generic for Topamax, for anxiety.

Recently i went on vacation with some friends was extrememly nervous like I used to be as a child. I thought it was just excitement and just being a little anxious but it got back to old levels. I told my doc and he prescribed Deplin on top of my meds for the anxiety.

I read on this site a few topics about Deplin, but really couldn't get a clear answer.

What should I expect from this drug? Side effects? Does it help clear anxiety?

Edit: BTW, I'm 15.

Hi Tacoon,

I have never taken Deplin, but I think it is like a supplement. They either work or they don't. I believe that it is natural. I am not sure. But I too have read good reports on it, but everybody is different, and what works for some may not work for others.

I am happy that you have joined the forum and I wanted to welcome you. Keep posting, it is a little slow on the weekends, but picks up during the week. I hope that you are having a good day.

Hugs, Karen

PS it seems to me that it doesn't work right away, it has to get into your system. Hopefully others will reply if I am wrong...

Good Morning,
Deplin (L-methylfolate) is an orally administered medical food for use only under medical supervision for the dietary management of suboptimal folate levels in depressed patients. Deplin is used to enhance antidepressants.
I have been on it for 3 months now and I truly believe it helps me but each person is different.
I wish you the best,

Hello, Tacoon, my understanding of Deplin is that it's called a "food
medication" because it's a synthethic form of folic acid (one of the B vitamins). In depressed people, and particularly bipolar people, there
is an indication that the patient may not be able to absorb folic acid from simply eating green vegetables (which contain folic acid). There
is something wrong or missing in the pathway for folic acid metabolism
in depressed or bipolar people, it has been suggested. It is designed
to enhance the antidepressant you may be taking so that you get greater benefit from the antidepressant.

My own psychiatrist has promised to do the research for me, and as soon as she lets me know what the results are I'll let you know.
You may also get a little information by going to on the internet.  Some of the information on it is available there.

Take care.

Hi Tacoon. Everybody here that has posted back to you has had positive experiences with Deplin. Unfortunately, I guess I am one of the few that did not. A few years ago I wrote several posts about it. I think if you do a search you may be able to bring them up.

good luck,
