hi friends ;
i have not been on here in quite some time ;
i stopped seeing my psychiatrist , last time i saw him he wrote me a prescription for Effexor which i did not get filled, i just felt like thats all he did was prescribe anti depressant medication although he knew i had adhd as well ; but he wanted me to get tested ;
and i had given him reasons as to why i didn't need to pay $1500 for a doctor to do so when i had been diagnosed when i was 6 ;
any who; i havent taken medication since december; or november ; of last year ; i really dont remember when at this point; i have been doing alot of thinking ; maybe its a good thing i stopped taking my meds and stopped seeing a psychiatrist in general although i know that it really is no good for me ; ive been thinking about just dealing with this without medication ; but i find that so hard to do ; i feel like the more i go without medication the worse i get ; ive even been looking for natural remedies ; but im very wary about that; im just confused about what to do ;

i really just want to feel okay.

Hi Whthurtsthemost,

Do you go to any counseling? You could try that if you don't want medications for depression. I am wonder if the reason that they want to test you again is because, for one, you can change. But also, most add medications are stimulants to people who don't have adhd. These medications are abused really bad. I take adderall. But I take it as a stimulant, I have taken ritalin as a stimulant. It is for my fibromyalgia. But my psychiatrist wont prescribe it to any new patients. It is highly controlled. Though there is strattera, which isn't suppose to be a stimulant. But I am imanging that is one of the reasons that they want to test you. I take it you don't have insurance for tests.

If you are feeling bad, you should go to the psychiatrist again. Try the meds. I took effexor for years and it worked well for me. I take pristiq now. It is a close cousin to effexor so there was no problem switching over.

If you want to try natural remedies, there is St. John's wort, and 5htp I think it is called, and I am sure that there are others that you could try. I think dephlin is natural. Not positive about that. You just don't want to take them when you are taking ad meds, because it can cause you to get too much seratonin.

I hope that you find what works for you.

Hugs, Karen

yeah ; i had a feeling that was why he wanted me to get tested ; i told him i had gotten worse ; and he referred me to a doctor who doesn't take my insurance ; that's why it was so expensive; i just feel like i'm letting my fears get the best of me ; when i should just get the help being offered to me ; maybe its my fear of having to take medication for a very long time ; i really don't know what to ; i'm more confused than anything ; i have gone to counseling in the past but that wasn't enough ; i really need to find my way ; so i can finally be okay . thank you so much for your advice Karen
i really appreciate it <3
i was born with adhd and depression along with all the symptoms , but i'm trying to make it through one step at a time.

Are you having a hard time trying to pay for the medicines, if so then many medicine
makers do offer up some help with that, you have to go to their websites to see if you
can qualify...Also tell your doctor your having money issues maybe he can try you out
on a less expensive medicine, ya the costs for treatment can get pricey, but
your worth the money, hun...
Maybe seek out help with a different counselor if the last one was only prescribing the
medicines...there are better doctor's out there, give counseling a second try...
well wishes and do keep us posted, we care...
