i know what everyones going to say... get help, call this number, go to the hospital.. etc.. Im canadian and live in winnipeg. I have tried over 20 medications to treat my depression and anxiety. Ive been to the hospital, several shrinks and counsellors. I get turned away, theres no room, theres a year long waiting list, and get this, no psychiatrists are taking new patients in all of winnipeg. Ive attempted  more times than i can count and simply cant think of any other options as ive sought help countless times and nobody is willing to do anything. Its no wonder that people are offing themselves and mentally ill people are roaming the streets homeless and not knowing whats up or down. I am 21 years old, and have been suffering with depression and anxiety for about 15 years, although i wasnt properly diagnosed until i was 14. I went to a counsellor the other day and she told me she cant help me because she can only see me on a short term basis and cannot get through my deep issues in 10 sessions. THIS IS LITTERALLY ALL I HAVE AVAILABLE TO ME RIGHT NOW TRUST ME, ME AND MY FAMILY HAVE SEARCHED FAR AND WIDE FOR YEARS FOR HELP FOR ME. What now?

Hi Aloneinthedark1989,

I had to edit your post and the subject due to the rules. We aren't allowed to diwscus suicide here, but I can find you numbers to call to talk to people or sites, which I will do before I end this post. In fact the best way would be for you to go to our depression resource thread (second thread on the forum) and see if there is anything else that could help you there. Did the counselor refer you to somebody who could help you? Are you waiting for that now? Have you ever called any crisis numbers or hotlines? Often they will talk to you and at least you are getting it out that way. Coming here can help you get things off your chest and often you will feel better after that.

Do you have any goals in life other than wanting to not be depressed? Set small goals to give you something constructive to think about. Take walks, this helps by giving us oxygen to our brains. That is why we think a lot while we are walking, and it also puts you in a meditative state. That relaxes us. Walking really helps a person to feel better. These are just some little things that you can o for yourself while waiting for professional help. Meditation helps me. It alwo helps me get to sleep at night. Along with ambien and a xanax. (lol...)

It sounds like you need help and that you need it soon. Please stay with us. Don't do anything you will regret. Know that we care about you here and about your wellbeing. Keep posting so that I know that you are okay.

Hugs, Karen

Oh sorry i didnt know that. And yes she did tell me to go to another counsellor which i have to pay for and i cant afford because im a student. Ive tried going through the disabilities counsellor at school and she can never see me and only deals with school related difficulties. The only counsellors that i have available to me according to the counsellor and a psychiatrist i saw for yet another evaluation.... are the ones with a sliding scale and i cannot afford 40$ a session

Can you ask about maybe making small payments? Surely they shouldn't refuse you. You are in a crisis stage. Is there a crisis hotline that you can call so that you could have somebody to talk to in person? Look on the internet for assistance in that part. You need somebody that you can talk to when you feel that you are in a crisis situation. Coming here can help too. We have a lot of wonderful understanding members here who have been in the same situation as you with the same circumstances.

Depression is a beast that feeds on our well being. It makes us feel hopeless and helpless. But we can fight that together with the wisdom of every member here. Between us, nothing can bring us down. You are a part of this group now. So know that you aren't alone.

Post when you can so that we all know that you are okay. Even if somebody doen't post, doesn't mean that they haven't read your thread and I am sure that everybody is thinking of you.

Hugs, Karen
