I've been classified as depressed for just over a year now and things are getting worse. I used to be a fully independent person, well qualified and with a good job until the illnesses struck. To put it simply Type1 diabetes and its wonderful side effects(yes I'm being sarcastic). Now being unable to work and even do the simplest of things like housework on my own is impossible.

I don't really do any living; I no longer have any really good friends to talk to.....god that sounds awful. I'm intelligent, articulate and feel like I'm living in a world that I don't fit into anymore.

Hi, I read your post and wonder if you would answer a few questions. I am not familiar with the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes and i hope you can explain what you are feeling. I am assuming you see a specialist for this problem. Are you on meds? And do you follow a special diet? I hope I am not sounding stupid I just don't know exactly what you are feeling. I would like to help in some way, especially if you are feeling depressed. Are you taking an a/d med? Also have you thought about seeing a therapist to kind of pull together a plan for you suitable to your living needs?
Since you have stopped working are you on disability? Also, do you have family members that you live with or someone close by who can help you out when you need it? You say you did have some friends. Are they avoiding you or have you stopped contacting them because of your illness. I think if you can reach out to a few friends you may find daily life more bearable. I know that church is a good place to meet people and they have different groups that you can join.
I have been an empty nester for a year and I hate living alone. I do get out a lot. I do volunteer work, take classes and and going to start mah jongg lessons. I think feeling depressed may be holding you back in having a more enjoyable life. I understand you don't feel well but sometimes it is necessary to reach out to others to improve your situation. Please don't take offense at my asking all these questions. I have faced terrible loneliness and I have found wonderful friends here on the forum. If you keep posting you will find the nicest people will respond to you.
You sound like a very intelligent person who is struggling right now. I am sure others will reply to you. Everyone on this forum is very caring and we will do our best to help you along and get you feeling more positive about yourself. Please keep writing and let us know what we can do to help support you.

Is the depression or the diabetes keeping you from doing things. I don't know about diabetes but I do know depression. It can keep you from everything. I have been having a bad time for about a month. Well, yesterday I looked around and concsiously noticed that my house was in disaray. Stuff was everywhere. I wasn't able to do anything because the depression was holding me down. I would lay there and think of what I needed to do but couldn't bring myself to get anything done. So I understand just how you feel. I guess things cleared up for me for a moment. I took that moment and cleaned almost everything. It is hard, but sometimes a flickering ray of light does peek in. I hope you feel better soon. This forum is great. Everyone is supportive. I come here often. Sometimes I can't even post but find comfort in what is written to others.smetimes giving a word of support to someone else helps me too. Keep posting.
