Hi guys and girls,

I'm new to this forum, and just would like to ask you if you think that meditation helps when you are depressed? I got a DVD from a friend, Meditation from the perspective of science, health and spirituality (Meditactics), and I would like to try some of the meditations on the DVD.
But I don't really know where to start, it is like a whole bunch of stuff there.. Maybe you can help me to choose the appropriate place to start? The contents on the DVD is found at

about my condition, well.. I was raised to never fail, always be on top, always have an answer to a question. I have a period of over activity, followed by a deep "can't lift a finger"-state (like almost being dead). And I don't have any idea how to avoid this...
Yeah, so I thought maybe there is a meditation that could suit me.
Would be grateful for you advise.

Kind regards

There are so many to choose from. That would be hard. I learned from a book that I bought years ago. Cant even remember the title anymore.

Anything that mentions minfulness would be good for you. But I would like to see you find one for beginners. And it is all basically focussing on your breathing and clearing the mind. I have been doing a simple version of it for years. It helps me fall to sleep at night. Or relax during the day. It is all within you. You have the power.

I really would suggest one on mindful ness. If you can find a basic one that starts you our from the beginning, I think that would be cool. Maybe google "the art of simple meditation" or something like that. These seem very advanced, and it is so simple.

I am really glad that you are looking into it. It gives us a lot of self control and peacefullness. Best wishes for finding the right one. You may even want to get a book on it. It is easy to comprehend with a book. Either way, I wish you luck with this. Hopefully some other members will come on with their suggestions.

Hugs, Karen

IMHO, meditation is very personal thing and finding the right one or ones is a matter of trial and error.

It is not uncommon for people to sample several "styles" and take a little from this one and a little for that and maybe something from a few others and combine them into something unique.

I would view any book, DVD, tape, etc as a starting point and go from there. Take what works for you and leave the rest behind.
