While most other 25 year olds are out enjoying life, I am steadily thinking of death and how easily life can be taken away from me. I don't know what brings it on, but I am terrified! I think I am going to have a heart attack and drop dead, or a stroke. My father died three years ago from a heart attack. That's when this all began. I also have panic attacks which are horrible. I just want it to stop, I want to learn how to enjoy life. I know I am going to die one day, I just don't want to think about it every day!!

hi KPhilly. welcome to the forum.

i use to be the same, think about it day and night. but with help from my gp-and medication this soon passed. are you taking any medication to help you with the panic attacks? they are awful. there is some wonderful medicated and non medicated techniques that can help you. meditation is brillant, deep breathing techniques and meditation are excellent too. so is medication, especially if the former techniques are not helpful. therapy helps me -are you in therapy? there are some wonderful techniques that you can learn as well. just talking to someone on a confidential bases really helps, just as what you are doing here on hw. well done on posting your situation, takes guts, we are here for you and i know that others with more info will post soon. your not alone.

sending much healing compassion to you.

Thank you for your kind words Jamie. I am enrolling in therapy this week actually. I was on Celexa, and then Cymbalta. While they did help with my thoughts and panic attacks, it didn't resolve them as I had hoped. Also, the medication affected my sex life. Meditating is something I have looked into, but have not tried. I just wonder if I am like this from my Father's sudden death. He was also a doctor, so it makes me wonder how someone so healthy can pass like that.

Hi Kphilly,

Thanks for joining us. It sounds like you really need something for the anxiety, have you ever tried xanax? It doesn't have a lot of side effects. And it has been around awhile. Though I think you are going to have to work on some cbt to help you also. To learn to control your thoughts. When you start thinking about death, put up a mental stop sign. Say Stop, three times. That makes you conscious of what you are thinking about and often you can stop it. Best wishes to you.

Hugs, Karen
