Has anyone used a small dose of lithium to boost the effects of their anti-depressant? I have very hard to treat depression, and my dr just started me on a small dose (300 mg - low dose for this drug) of lithium in order to boost the Cymbalta I take for depression b/c it's just not working. I wondered if anyone has had any success with this. Thanks.

yes it can be used this way, but not for me. i am not on any anti-depressants. but i know of a few people being treated in the way 'booster' that you are. hoping you get some productive replies gigi.

A low dose might be benefical. They put me on it for a week, large dose, and I was a complete zombie....just be sure you find right dose for you

I use Deplin now to boost 10 mg. prozac, and it's very effective; there are no more side effects than there would be in a sugar pill. Deplin is called a "medical food" product.

I suppose it depends on how severe the depression is as to whether one would take lithium as an antidepressant booster. It's a decision your psychiatrist needs to make, probably.

My psychiatrist ordered lithium for me too. 300 mg for 4 days. 600mg for 3 days. I already take 40mg generic celexa. Then she said we would do wellbutrin and bring celexa down to 20mg. Will start lithium tonight. Hope it helps. Good luck to you

Thank you to all who have answered. I have tried adding Deplin in the past and it didn't help. I'm currently taking 30mg Cymbalta (there was no difference between 30 and 60mg Cymbalta for me) and have been taking 300mg Lithium for 2 days now. I wish luck to all of you too, and hope you are all doing as well as can be. Thanks again.
