Hi Everyone,

Just wondering what people think of Wellbutrin. I went to my psychiatrist today. Basically, long story short, I've tried a lot of anti-depressants and they don't seem to work. I haven't ever tried Wellbutrin, so he prescribed it to me today to start tomorrow morning. I've been reading up on it on the Internet and it seems like the big complaint is sexual side effects. Not something I care a great deal about because I'm super depressed anyway, but just curious what people think.

Thanks,

Trish

My doc put me on Welbutrin the beginning of the week, and it seems to be helping already. I was already on lexapro, and maybe it was helping a little, but I was tired and had no motivation. Now that the Welbutrin has been added, I have more energy, have been doing more out of the house and even cleaning with no problem! I have noticed dry mouth, but that's the only side effect I've noticed. It might just be a mental thing and its not really the meds, but either way, something is helping me to feel better!

Good luck!

I took it before but got nervous at a high dose. And I needed ahigh dose to help me. So I tried effexor and took that for years. I did like the way it made me think clearer and was much sharper in the mind. I hope that it works for you. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing on it.

It does make you think more clearly? Is that one of the side effects? That seems like it would be really helpful. That's why I really like the methylphenidate I'm on; I think a lot more clearly. I'm sorry it didn't work for you in the end, Karen. I'm glad you found something that does. Effexor didn't work for me, so maybe I'll find that the opposite is true for me; maybe the Wellbutrin will be helpful.

How long does it take to work? Is it the same as all the other anti-depressants? Like 4-6 weeks?

jellyg: was it really only a week after you saw a difference? I just took my first dose this morning and I am impatient. tongue

I started noticing an improvement quite quickly. But it still doesn't reach it's full effects until six or eight weeks. I hope that you start noticing improvements soon. I liked wellbutrin, but a high dose that I needed didn't like me. I take pristiq now. Love it. And abilify. They work good together. You can always ask about a mood stabilizer to go with your anti D. It does help. Makes the anti D work better and stabilizes the moods. Also helps me to not over think things.
