Hi, Display here.

I am temporarily not covered by insurance, and I just found out that one of my prescriptions will cost over $500 to get refilled. Even though I will get reimbursed for most of this, the dollar amount really scares me.

I just wanted to share this, so that I don't freak out about it on my own.

Thanks for listening,
Rich N.

Can you check on-line the medicine and see if they offer up
a low costs program from the maker of your medicine...
you might qualify for help since your not covered with insurance...
Start with doing a google search on your medicine which should lead you to a site
about the medicine, ect...look for help buying or paying for you medicine...
Hope this can help...
Many well wishes

What is that site? Needymeds.com??? I think that is what it is. Also going through the manufacturer can sometimes get you a year of free meds. Depends who it is. I am glad that you will get that (or most of) money back. I hope that you can come up with the initial cost. Let us know how it goes. What is this med? My abilify is really expensive and so is my pristiq.

I wish you the best.

Thanks for your messages. Yes, I should get all but $40 back. I'm just a little freaked about the upfront cost. The med is Zyprexa btw.

Oh and yes I can come up with the initial cost. It's just that $ amounts that high always make me nervous.

I understand that. I could never afford mine if I didn't have insurance, and still the copays are high. I still spend a couple hundred a month. But having a good med is worth every cent. IF it works for you, get it. Don't let it make you anxious.

I hope things work out.

Hi Display:  A $500.00 prescription would certainly make me nervous and double-think too.  Even if you are getting reimbursed.

I don't have health insurance and I tried NeedyMeds.org.  Go visit their website.  It is perfectly legitimate.  On some of my prescriptions it has saved me up to 40%.  But you need to ask before you use it because (and I don't understand why) sometimes it could cost more.  So show your pharmacist the card and get a quote.

But I definitely agree with Karen.  Feeling better is priceless.  And if you are going to be reimbursed try using the needy meds and get it filled.

Good luck!
Cass

Medication sticker shock.

Anytime I get scripts filled the retail price is part of the receipt along with how much the insurance covered and then the balance. It is just ridiculous what many medications cost, and even some of the generics are borderline outrageous.

Hello all my medications cost me about $100/month. I am on effexor 150mg, avanza(mirtazapine)60mg, pariet 20mg. Medications can be expensive, in my case and many others you need them.
