Hello Everyone - I am new to this site. I started taking antidepressant medication because of the depression I experience with Lupus as well as the chronic pain that goes along with it. I had taken Lexapro a few years back and it was helpful. My doc said Viibryd is the new and improved Lexapro. I've been on it for over two weeks and have experienced insomnia and periods of agitation, restlessness and sleeplessness....not to mention the GI upset. Anyone else taking this med? If so...how are you doing on it?

Thanks and God Bless...

Karen

Karen,
I am also taking Viibryd. I experienced some things differently. I have been having fits of crying from day one. I know others who've taken it and say its a God send. Keep on it, it may just take time for you. I was told, however, to take it after my first meal of the day. I've been on it for months and am about to switch. I suggest staying on it for another month or do, as it does take a while for any antidepressant to start working. Good luck.

I have never been on that medication, although I've been on Lexapro and am currently taking Zoloft. With any medication there will be an adjustment period where you might see increased symptoms that you are trying to suppress, or new unexplained symptoms. After a few weeks these should subside and the desired effect of the drug will settle in. If it does not after a few more weeks, or if you start having serious side effects that are too painful or frightening to ignore, then notify your doctor immediately. Not every drug works for every person, so unfortunately we must experiment and try different things to get the results we need. Since kelsrox has experience with this drug, I would follow their advice to give it another month and try to keep positive about its effects and long-term success.

Thank you for your responses (everyone). I have had fits of crying as well - some folks think I am losing it...then there are other days where I feel like I am getting a mood lift from it. My doc switched it to nighttime because her said it might be kicking in after a few hours so maybe it would kick in after I woke up in the morning.

The doc wants to counteract this by using Trazadone, which makes me feel like doo doo in the morning - it takes me like 4 hours to wake up. I dunno....thinking about going back to Lexapro - maybe sticking to what I know works.

I sincerely appreciate the feedback and the warm welcome. I hope to be a support to all of you as well.

Blessings,

Karen

Karen, maybe you should take half of what is suggested of the trazadone? I was taken off of lexapro for Viibryd. I sincerely hope it works for you. I think the first few weeks are the hardest because we are basically on nothing while our body is working on getting the medicine into our system. Trazodone, although used for sleep a lot, is an antidepressant as well. Maybe it will give an extra boost toward your Viibryd. Good luck again.

Kelsey -I think the medication has caused me to fell somnolent. I think I am going to switch to benadryl. Also, I will stay on Viibryd until I see the doc next week. Thanks again:)

Jamie...thank you:)
