I've been feeling sad off and on for a couple of weeks but yesterday and today I'm just a crying all day long and cannot figure out why.  I've tried journaling and talking with my sister and Mom and still it keeps going today.  I'm lost and do not know where to turn or who to call for help.

Hey sorry you are so sad...I too have days of that when I cannot stop and there is really nothing to put my finger on...i guess it's just depression

Are you on meds? Also the holidays get to a lot of us...

Try doing something nice for yourself, play some music, read something uplifting...if it doesn't seem to let up, I'd go to see my doc.

Hope you have a good holiday

Hello, Ocean 1, and welcome to the Depression Forum,

I'm sorry you're having a bad time with the moods and tears coming
so strongly.

So much of this depression that we suffer from is caused by chemical imbalances, Ocean 1. While the emotional qualities of Christmas are very tough for some people, we can improve our feeling tone by doing several things:

Stop drinking canned drinks which contain either caffeine or artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners can react with some of us by causing a profusion of tears, low feeling tone, and it takes hours of drinking purified water to get these out of our systems. If you use caffeine in any form, please stop it right away. It causes depression to become much worse over a period of time; so does alcohol.

If you are able to do those things, you mood will improve over time,

I urge you also to seek counselling to see if medication is called for
until you stabilize.

Keep posting to let us know how you are getting along in the next
few days with some changes. I rank dropping caffeine and artificial sweeteners right up there with the effectiveness of some of the best psychotropic medications.

Have a restful and calm, quiet Christmas.

Holiday cheers!

Hi Ocean,

I am so sorry that you are feeling so down this holiday season. The holidays are tough for some of us. But try not to dispair. It will get better. I would suggest making an appointment with a counselor to start off with. Especially if you are tearful all the time for no reason. Are you happy with your life in general? Are there any things that are going on that might be contributing to the way that you feel?

Please feel free to talk here. I really do hope that you get better soon. Never give up. But take life one day at a time. Try to go with the flow of things. Be good to yourself right now.

Keep posting...

Hugs, Karen
