I have been feeling down lately.  I turned 40 and I feel like I haven't accomplished my goals.  I thought I would have been married with children.  That didn't happen.  I thought I would have my home by now.  That didn't happen.  It is bugging the heck up out me.  I don't mind getting old but I thought I would be further along by now.  For the last year and half I been going to the doctor because I found out I have Ulcerative Proctitis and High Blood Pressure.  It didn't help matters.  It hits me all when I'm getting ready to go to sleep.  I'm trying to shake this depression.  Feeling blue. I got to stop feel like crying.

am sorry you are feelin' down Cee7Jay1. hey, slow and steady wins the race. sorry about the up and high blood pressure. try to relax some, what works for you? me it is music and walking. poetry too, when i am in the right mood too. i feel you should talk to your doctor about feeling blue and that you have been feeling down lately and the reasons you have mentioned. maybe trying to practice some minor meditation before bed will help. know that we are here for you. sometimes a good cry is very cleansing too. but not always. take care of you. with healing compassion, jamie

Hey CeeJay, I totally understand how you feel. I often feel the same way when I look at my life. It's tough. I think I have a generally negative view of the world. I started Pristiq for my migraines and I feel like it has helped my view a bit, I don't focus on the negative so much but the overall picture is the same. I wish I could change the picture instead of the way I see it but it's hard, especially with UC. It's hard to be productive.

I think we have to find something we love and try to focus on spending time doing those things. Also, I have come to believe that the majority of the things we want aren't really what we want, a lot of the time it's things that we are taught to believe we want. For example, marriage, the majority of them aren't that happy but we are led to believe we want it our entire lives. Same with home ownership, sometimes it's more stressful than a rental but we have been taught to believe it's "Normal" to do these things. I am trying to hone in on the things that are important to me. I don't need more than I have. I am going to try to be happy with who I am and not look at where "I should be".

I hope you're able to get out of your funk quickly. Definitely see a doctor and get treatment if you're feeling down. I saw someone for a while when I was on prednisone and depressed and it helped. That's around the time I started Pristiq. That's also around the same time my UC improved.

You're always welcome to email me if you want to chat. I know how hard it is dealing with UC & depression.

Hi Cee7Jay1,

Welcome to the depression forum. I don't believe I have noticed you post before. I am glad that you have joined us, but sorry for the reason why.

I think you have gotten some very good advice from other members. I don't know a lot about your physical issues, but I know that it is hard with any chronic illness and depresssion on top of that.

Keep posting, know that we all care.

Hugs, Karen

@Jamiee thanks for the advice.  I will try that meditation at night.

@Notsosicklygirl, you really help me more than you will every know.  I needed to read that.  We are taught to feel like we are suppose to have those things and this the norm.  People can make you feel really bad about not having any kids and not being married.  When you are feeling down sometimes you don't think about it like that.  It has been hard getting hit with the UP & High Blood Pressure at the same time.  I really appreciate you saying I can email you.  Thanks so much!!!

@getting by, Yes, this is my first time posting here usually I post on the UC forum.  I had being feeling down so I came here.  I will talk to my doctor if things aren't better.

I am glad that you are going to see your doc if things don't get better. Sometimes we need medication, or sometimes therapy. Sometimes just talking about it helps. Keep on posting. It really does help. I hope that you feel better soon.

Dear CJ....I am sorry you are feeling like you have let yourself down....try not to be so hard on yourself it is hard out there and it takes longer to get one self financially set for a home and children. Don't let others comments affect you after all their lives must be pretty boring if that is all thay have to talk about.

I agree with Notsosickgirl maybe these are not things you necessarily  want, focus on doing things you enjoy. Hang in there .....I think talking to your doc about the way you have been feeling would be a good ideal....Wish you all the best.

Take care, Amy smurf smurf smurf
