seen the sleepy head doctor today.
in short he can't help me. maybe down the track
when i am more mentally stable we will consider another
sleep study. he did mention to me that i could not get into
deep rem sleep when we did the last sleep study and remained
in the light form of rem sleep, of which he noted today is not sleep.
he is however writing to my shrink and general practioner. i told
the sleep doctor of my slipped disk and arthritis in my neck. i
explained that i am suffering horribly with mania and bi-polar and
depression, rapid cycling and deep personal issues. obviously
other allied health factors are at play as well. hopefully this
letter to both these people will impress the importance of
treating me a whole lot better and less of a guinea pig.

love to all

jamie

I think you've been given some really important information by your sleep specialist. Deep rem sleep is the form which "charges" your battery. It is built up and stored, so that if you aren't getting adequate good rem sleep, your system is going to react in very negative ways in time. Please see rem sleep deficit symptoms.com.

Because it is so vital in heart problem prevention, even in diabetes prevention, and other things important to your well-being, I would see another firm which will administer a sleep test and let you know just how much deep rem sleep you are missing. You need to know that so that you have some choice in how to care for yourself effectively.

Your psychiatrist needs to know that, as well, to gauge medication dosage. Improvement in deep rem sleep may make a big difference in the amount and kind of medications you need to take.

Sleep apnea is far more prevalent than is generally thought and it is so beneficial to take continuous positive airflow pressure if you
need it for healthy mental processing. Even young people may have problems with it; it is not strictly an older person's sleep deficit condition.

Sorry you've had the problems, Jamie.

Well, I can understand that. It's a wonder really that anyone can get any sleep while being tested--with 25 sets of wires attached all over the body at various intervals, it is just plain difficult to get to sleep, even with a sleep aid.

You are one man who has had more than his share of difficulty.

I am supposing that you had an interest in this so that your psychiatrist will give heed to your need to get more sleep. Some medication, perhaps, that would help, I'm guessing.

Good wishes,

Oh Jamie that really bites. have you ever tried ambien or any of those? They did not work for me long term (back on seroquel) but some folks swear by them. I also take klonopin at night for my PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder) like restless leg but keeps you from going into deep sleep also..this helps a little

I sure hope your docs can help out--sleep is so critical to your well being..if your brain is not re-charging, you will not have the energy to heal.

All my best sweetie

Maggie

If you would not mind sharing with me can you remind me what medications you are currently on ?  You can email that to me if you prefer and if you do not want to list your meds or share that is OK too.
