Hello everyone,

Tomorrow I have my 1st Psychologist appointment ever! I am not sure what to expect? What will happen, what do I do? I would appreciate some ideas on what I should possibly exspect.

Thanks & Cheers!

Charles

You will probably end up filling out paperwork which may include a questionnaire asking you such things as why you are there, how do you feel, have you ever thought about hurting yourself or others, what medications you are taking, etc. Then the doc will probably ask you the same things.

The first visit is where the doc will attempt to get to know you a bit and try to figure out where to begin and try to figure out how to help you the best.

Thanks Jim,

Dare I be honest and say that I've had (past tense) thoughts of hurting myself, but none at the moment?

One of my worse fears is being locked up. It's taking me so long to seek help. I want to be honest, but I probably should say no if asked... I'm okay volunteering to see someone, but it's not going to end well if I am locked up...

For some reason I just couldn't go on...Hahahaha it's kind of funny. I'll be biting my tongue a lot. LOL. I don't know if I can be helped really. I'll never get any closure, no retribution, no apology either. Maybe I'm just throwing money away...I guess I'll know soon enough.

Cheers!

No Worries,

Be honest, they aren't going to put you away anywhere. Though we aren't suppose to talk about self harm on the forum, just having thoughts isn't enough to lock a person up anywhere. So don't worry about that.

Relax with your therapist. They are there to help you. Not imprison you. Talk therapy really helps me a lot and I Hope that it helps you too. Try not to be negative in your thoughts. Try to elimate the word "never". You may not get an apology or retribution, but you can still get closure.

Best wishes for a wonderful day.

Hugs, Karen

The trouble is I know what they are looking for, so I answer with that and not how I truly feel. Again, cuz I'm scared they will use my words against me and lock me away. Then again there are days when I wish I was locked away, all dope up...numb to my feelings...numb to my pain!

If you aren't honest with them, they can't help you. Just try to get into sessions with the psychologist. Bring these things up if they are an issue at that time. Truth is, we all have most likely felt like you at one time or another. But with therapy, you can get beyond that. Talk about basic issues, insecurities if you have them. Feeling worthless, the feeling of a dark hole. Something that you are experiencing just to get started. There are many ways a psychologist can help you. I have been seeing one for years. But like Chartreux said, they just don't lock you up. So try not to get worked up about it. Face it when it is time and take things as they come. Try to go with the flow of things. Getting stressed out goes against it.

I hope that you feel better soon.

Hugs, Karen
