What products will help with this side effect of narcotic pain killers?

I would think that this is better asked on the chronic pain forum. But first of all, I would drink a lot of water. There is a natural remedy that is a stimulant for the bowels called "casgara sagrada". Also a stool softener helps. Keep moving and drink plenty of water because yes, narcotics do make you constipated.

Best wishes for you.

The best thing to do is increase your fiber and water intake. This will help prevent the constipation in the first place and the extra fiber may also help the pain pills work better.

Depending on the nature of your problem I have found "MOM" to work the best for me when it comes to simple constipation and Colace (name or generic) if it is more a matter of hard stool. Combine them if it is a combination problem.

Thanks so much. I may have to have another back surgery [I have had 2] and I remember the complications of narcotic pain meds.
Metamucle might also help.

Thanks again

Along with this, don't forget about the water. Keep it going in you. It helps with matters of coming out. And walk if you can. Even if you can't walk much. The cascara sagrada is a very good natural way to stimulate. And the stool softener is a very good idea.

Good luck...

Sorry ya have to have surgery. My stepson had two on his back, metal rods put in. He said that the second surgery made him feel better than ever.

I hope all goes well.

The metamucal should work good for fiber intake...

jimmy I drink a litre of prune juice a day. I take 2 x senna tab, 1 x coloxyl tab, licorice, psyllium hulls, fennel, liquid parafin and 2 x movicol sachets. I feel your pain! Also try to walk a bit and even do some digestive system yoga. Massaging your large colon manually can help in some cases. Also lots and lots of water!
