I have been fighting depression (MDD) for more years now then i can count. Thought i for a drug that finally worked. Here is my problem. I take Effexor 300mg for many years. now it no longer has been working and on top of it it has caused my to become dietic to boot AND gain over 100 lbs. So now my family doctor has me on metformen 2000mg aday. and i feel quite sick. I dont realling know what to do any more as the somewhat stablie days i had in the past seem to be fadeing away. Between the side effects from the metformen and lack of help with the effexor issuse i am at a loss. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi Suzanction,

How long have you been on the metformen? Have you given it a chance to work. You can go up to 375 mg of effexor. I believe that is the highest dose. I was on it for a long time. Added abilify and that worked well too. I went to pristiq. It is a cousin of effexor. It also works well. Dont give up. Give the metaformen time to work and see what happens. If that don't help, talk to your doc again. You want to feel good and that is understandable. Keep posting and welcome to the forum,

Hugs, Karen

Hi Suzanction.
I'm not sure what you can do about the Effexor, that would be up to your doctor. The metformin however, I have some ideas. I was given 500 mg Metformin when I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. As far as i know, everyone gets sick at first. It takes a few weeks to pass. Also every time the dosage goes up you get sick again for a while. It was making my arms hurt a lot so my doc cut it to 250mg/day and added glyburide twice a day. Give it some time, and if you don't get used to it talk to your doctor about alternatives. Hope this helps :)
